WITH such a large rise in mobile phone users around the world over the last 10 years, many people are worried about possible health risks. For some time, scientists have been thinking that mobile phones could lead to cancer. But so far, there is no strong evidence (證據(jù)) for this.

The Norwegian Institute of Public Health and theUK's Health Protection Agency both reported some studies last year. They said that there was no evidence found between mobile phone radiation (輻射) and cancer.

However, many heavy users of mobile phones often complain of headaches and even feeling sick. Last October,a court case inItalysaid that heavy mobile phone usage had caused brain cancer in one man. He had used a mobile phone up to six hours a day for 12 years.

But the biggest problem with research now is that it is too early to reach conclusions. Mobile phones have only been widely used since the 1990s,and cancers can take many years to develop.

There is also still a strong argument that mobile phones are a major risk for children. "In a child, the more central brain structures are going to be exposed (暴露) ”, said Dr Annie Sasco of the Institute of Public Health, speaking to the BB   C. She added, "Besides, kids have a skull (頭蓋骨) which is thinner. There is much more water in their brain. So there are many reasons that they take in more of the same radiation."

Every year, wildfires (野火) destroy much forest land. Homes are broken down, and thousands of people die. Smokejumpers are helping to stop this. Smokejumpers are a special kind of firefighters. They jump from planes into areas that are difficult to reach by car or on foot They try to put out fires as fast as they can.

At a fire site, smokejumpers first examine the land and decide how to fight the fire. Their main goal is to stop fire from spreading, using basic tools such as shovels and axes. Smokej umpers clear land of burnable material like plants and other dry material. They carry water with them too,but not much.

Although most smokejumpers are men, more women are joining. Most important are your weight and height. Smokejumpers in theU. S.for example, must be 54 to 91 kilograms,so they don't get hurt when they land,or get blown by strong winds.

Smokej umpers must be able to live in the wilderness. InRussia, many smokejumpers know how to find food in the forest and even make simple furniture from trees.

The work is dangerous and the hours are long. But for these firefighters, smokejumper isn't just a job. They love being able to jump out of planes, fight fires, and live in the forest. As 28-year-old Russian smokej umper Alex Tishin says, "This is the best job for the strong and brave."
