In the summer of 2017, 13-year-old Myles Harris took a Boy Scout(童子軍)class in water safety and life-saving skills. He didn't know how important that class would become until July 5,2018. On that day, his mother nearly drowned, but Myles saved her life.

Harris studies at Mission Vista High School in California. He was surprised when he got the honor. But he was thankful that he had the training and was in the right place at the right time to save his mom. "It was a scary experience," he recalled.
His family was on vacation at the beach. As he looked around, he saw someone floating on the water. Then he swam up quickly to the body and found out it was his mother Karmen. After seeing that she was unconscious, he quickly pulled her back to the family's boat and called for help. Then a lifeguard came to help him and took his mother to the hospital.
After her son won the award, Karmen thanked her son, as well as the Boy Scouts. In their rescue class, students not only learn how to save a drowning victim, but also how to prevent themselves from being accidentally pulled underwater by a victim.
