Here are some American classroom customs:

.    If the teacher asks a question, you are expected to give an answer. If you do not understand the question, you should put up your hand and ask the teacher to repeat(重復(fù))the question. If you do not know the answer,1 Then he or she knows what you need to learn.

.           2If you are absent, you should call your teacher or someone who is in your class and ask for the homework. It is your work to find out what homework you have missed. It is not the teacher's work to remind(提醒)you of the missing homework.

.           3If you are badly ill, call and let the teacher know you will not be there for the test. If your teacher allows make-up tests (補(bǔ)考).you should take the test within one or two days after returning to class. Bad illness is the only reason for missing a test.

.       Be on time. It is considered rude to be late. Also,it disturbs other students. 4 Have your books and papers out of your bag before you come into the room, then go to your seat and sit quietly. In the U. S.,it is not necessary to knock before you enter the classroom. 5 There is no need to ask the teacher's permission(許可).But,entering a teacher's office without knocking first is not acceptable. Knock first, then wait to be invited in.

  J. K. Rowling is the writer of Harry Potter, which is now one of the best-sellers in the world.

  J. K. Rowling was born in Bristol on July 31st, 1965. She has one sister who is two years younger than her. Both girls loved listening to their father reading bedtime stories to them. They loved stories about magical world best. Rowling wrote her first story Rabbit at the age of six.

After she graduated from the university, Rowling worked as a translater in London. During that time,on a long train trip in the summer of 1990, the idea came to her of a boy who has magic power but doesn't know it. In 1992, Rowling began to teach English. She lived with her baby daughter, Jessica, and spent much time finishing the first Harry Potter book for young readers. It appeared in June, 1997. To her surprise, the book was greatly successful. The film came out in November, 2001. Now Harry Potter series is popular among people of all ages and about 60 million books were sold in 200 countries.

Why has the series been so successful? There are a few reasons. Many other magical stories take place in far away lands or in the past or the future. But Harry lives in modern England. He's also an ordinary(普通的)boy: polite, friendly, brave and clever. So when other children read about Harry, they can imagine that they're just like him.

  J. K. Rowling is very happy with the success, and she is now busy finishing the whole series of the seven books. She's writing full time and she's really enjoying her life. She says she will go on living a normal life with her daughter and writing children's books.
