BEING an astronaut sounds cool, doesn’t it? In space, they get to do some pretty amazing things, like floating(漂浮) in zero gravity(重力).
However, there are also plenty of things that astronauts can’t do because of their weightless environment, and that’s very sad. What’s worse, they can’t even let their sadness show, because it’s impossible to cry in zero gravity.
Of course, astronauts can still produce tears(眼淚). But crying is much more difficult in space, according to The Atlantic(大西洋月刊) in January. Without gravity, tears don’t flow(流動(dòng)) down out of the eyes like they do here on Earth. This means that when you cry in space, your tears have nowhere to go — they just stick(粘) to your eyes.
In May 2011, astronaut Andrew Feustel experienced this during one of his spacewalks. “Tears,” he said, “don’t fall off of your eyes. They just stay there.”
Besides making your vision(視線) unclear, this can also cause physical pain. Back on Earth, tears are supposed to bring comfort to the eyes. But that’s not the case(情況) in space. The space environment dries out astronauts’ eyes, and when tears suddenly wet the eyes, it can cause pain rather than comfort. “My right eye is stinging(刺痛) like crazy,” Feustel told his teammate during the walk.
Since gravity doesn’t work in space, astronauts need some extra help to get rid of(除去) the tears. Feustel chose to rub his eyes against his helmet to wipe(擦) the tears away. Another choice is to just wait — “When the tears get big enough, they simply break free of the eyes and float around,” astronaut Ron Parise told The Atlantic.
There are lots of small things — things like crying — that we are so used to on Earth. We usually take them for granted until they become a problem in a totally different environment, like space. There, astronauts can’t talk to each other directly. They also can’t eat or drink in normal ways. They can’t even burp(打嗝), because there is no gravity to hold the food down in their stomach. If they do burp, they just end up throwing up(嘔吐) everything in their stomach, according to the UK National Space Center.
Therefore, perhaps it’s only space explorers who can honestly say, “Gravity, you’re the best.”

閱讀短文,根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容回答問題。
In the past, man did not have to think about the protection of his environment. There were not many people on the earth, and natural resources seemed to be unlimited .
Today, things are different. The world has become too crowded. We are using up our natural resources too quickly, and at the same time we are polluting our environment with dangerous chemicals. If we continue like this, human life on earth will not survive.
Everyone realizes today that if too many fish are taken from the sea, there will soon be none left. Yet with modern fishing methods, more and more fish are caught. We know that if too many trees are cut down, forests will disappear and nothing will grow on the land. Yet, we continue to use bigger and more powerful machines to cut down more and more trees.
We realize that if rivers are polluted with waste products from factories, we will die. However, in most countries waste products are still put into rivers or into the sea, and there are few laws to stop this.
We know, too, that if the population of the world continues to rise at the present rate, in a few years, there will not be enough food.
If we eat more vegetables and less meat, we will easily get more food. Land that is used to grow crops can feed five times more people than land where animals are kept.
The world population will not rise so quickly if people use modern methods of birth control.
Finally, if we educate people to think about the problems, we shall have a better and cleaner living place in the future.
1. Is the number of people in the world just the same as it was in the past?
2. Are the natural resources on the earth limited or unlimited?
3. Why do we have fewer and fewer fish and trees now?
4. What is the writer’s advice on eating?
5. What must we do to make our human beings live happily on the earth?

When you sleep somewhere else-like at a summer camp or a friend’s house, you know you’re in for a fun time. It can be exciting to get away from the same old bed in the same old room in the same old house. But fun as this is, for some kids being away from home can be scary and sad. It’s called being homesick.
Homesick means you are upset, sad, and maybe scared. But don’t feel surprised. A lot of people get homesick, even grown-ups. When you’re used to having certain people around you, it can be scary when they are gone. When you are dealing with other problems, you will feel homesick, too. Some kids may feel more homesick than usual if their parents get divorced ( 離婚)or if someone they loved has recently died.
Here are some ideas to help you feel less homesick.
Bring a little bit of home with you. If you’re going away from home, bring your pillow or pictures of the people you will be apart from and look at them any time you want.
Keep busy. The more fun things you do, the less time you’ll have to feel homesick. So try to join in activities wherever you are.
Stay in touch. You can make a plan for when you will call your mum or dad. You can also send e-mails or text messages to keep in touch with family and friends. When you do get in touch with someone, make sure to talk about the fun things you’re doing!
Talk to someone where you are. Maybe you can tell a friend that you feel homesick. He or she might have some ideas to help you feel better.
1. How many ideas are given to help you feel less homesick in the passage ?
A. Two. B. Three. C. Four. D. Five.
2. What should you talk about in order to feel less homesick?
A. Your future plan. B.The past things.
C. Your difficulties. D. The interesting things.
3. Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?
A. Some kids can get homesick, but grown-ups never .
B. Joining in more activities may make you feel less homesick.
C. Someone may feel homesick when one of his family members dies.
D. Bringing along some things from home may be helpful for feeling less homesick.
