　　Dick was a clever boy. His parents were poor, so he had to work in his spare time and during his holidays to pay his education. In spite of this, he managed to get to university. It was so expensive to study there that during the holidays he had to get two jobs in his spare time to earn (賺) enough money to pay for his studies.

　　One summer he managed to get a job at a butcher's shop during the daytime, and at a hospital at night. In the shop, he learnt to cut meat up quite nicely. The butcher often left him to do all the serving and he himself went to a room behind the shop to do his accounts (賬目). At the hospital, on the other hand, he was, of course, allowed to do the simplest jobs, helping to lift people and to carry them from one part of the hospital to another. With a determined(堅(jiān)定的) look on his face, Chicago’s Michael McCarthy held on to the banister(扶手) and climbed to the top of the Willis Tower not long ago. The Tower stands 1,451 feet tall, the      building in the US.

As he got to the last step, McCarthy      fell down, but that didn’t stop him. The 14-year-old boy finally finished climbing the 2,109 steps and arrived at the top, where he      cheers from many people.
