The worst tourist in the world is Nicholas Seottie of San Francisco. Once he flew from the US to his hometown in Italy to see someone at home. The plane stopped to get oil at Kennedy Airport of New York after an hour's flying. As he thought he had arrived home, Mr Scottie got off the plane. He thought he was in Rome. When nobody was there to meet him, Mr Scottie thought maybe they were held up by heavy traffic. While looking for their address, Mr Scottie found that the old “Rome” had changed a lot. Many old buildings were replaced by high modern ones. He also found that many people spoke English instead of Italian and that many streets were written in English. Mr Scottie knew very little English, so he asked a policeman the way to the bus station. He happened to meet a policeman who was also born in Italy and answered him in the same language. After twelve hour's travelling round on a bus, the driver handed him over to a second policeman. He asked the policeman why the Rome police employed so many people as policemen speaking English instead of Italian. Mr Scottie did not believe he was in New York when he was told so. To get him on a plane back to San Francisco, he was sent to the airport in a police car with sirens (警報(bào)) on. “Look,” said Scottie to his interpreter (翻譯) , “I know I'm in Italy. That's how they drive.”
(1) When Mr Scottie arrived at the airport, nobody met him because ________.
[ ]
A.he was in New York
B.he was not in Rome
C.policeman could help him
D.both A and B
(2) In what direction did the plane fly when Mr Scottie went to Italy from the US?
[ ]
(3) Why was Mr Scottie so sure that he was in Rome?
[ ]
A.Because he knew little about the US.
B.Because he knew little about Italy.
C.Because he travelled a lot.
D.Because he didn't travel much.
(4) At last Mr Scottie ________.
[ ]
A.know he did something wrong
B.still thought he was in Rome
C.knew he was wrong
D.knew he was at home
(5) Do you think many people do the same things as Mr Scottie did?
[ ]
A.Nobody but Mr Scottie made this kind of mistake.
B.Many people make this kind of mistake.
C.Few people make this kind of mistake.
D.50% of people will make the same mistake.
(1) 推理判斷題。由句子The plane stopped to get oil at Kennedy Airport of New York可知,飛機(jī)沒(méi)有離開(kāi)美國(guó),而是在紐約Kennedy機(jī)場(chǎng),而Mr Scottie的目的地是意大利的羅馬,因而沒(méi)有人接他。 故選A。 (4) 細(xì)節(jié)理解題。原文中有Mr Scottie didn't believe he was in New York when he was told so.并且在文末他還說(shuō)I know I'm in Italy. That's how they drive. |

What to do if you don't feel popular?
●Try to take part in activities. Call your friends. Plan to do something. The worst feeling is staying home alone, because it makes you feel even more lonely.
●Try to make new friends. Choose friends carefully, not just because you think they're popular. And remember, making good friends takes time. Choosing a popular person to be friends with is okay. If they are nice.
●Be yourself. If you want to become friends with someone who's popular, don't make yourself into someone you are not just to impress that person.
●Be nice. Be friendly. Be outgoing. But don't overdo it!Talk to trusted friends if you are feeling really bad. Or you might want to write it down in a diary.
●Do something special for yourself. You could take pictures of your friends, or collect their school pictures, and take a collage(拼貼畫(huà))to hang on your wall. This will remind you, when you are feeling unpopular, that you really do have friends.
●Think up your own ideas. These suggestions might not work for everyone.
What to do if you have a problem with your teacher?
●Talk to your parents, or another adult who will listen to you and perhaps can help. Talk to your friends. Maybe they have had problems with the same teacher, too.
●Don't give the teacher a reason to have problems with you. Do your work, complete your task, attend the class seriously and take notes. Maybe you just need to give the teacher a chance.
●Try to find out what the problem is.
●Talk to the teacher if you feel comfortable doing this. Don't be nasty(鬧別扭的), but express your concerns(關(guān)心). Listen to the teacher, as well.
●Just accept the fact that you're not going to love all your teachers.
