(2015湖南衡陽中考模擬)

In 2010,a serious drought (旱災(zāi)) hit the Southwest of China, such as Yunnan,Guizhou,Guangxi,Sichuan and Chongqing. Most farmers lived there had no water for their fields. Some villages watered the fields in Guizhou.Instead of looking for water,149 families in Heinitang village of Yunnan were busy digging a hole to build water cellars to fight the drought. A water cellar looks like a 3-meter-deep jar half buried in the ground, which can meet a family-of-three’s need for water for half a year. Some mountainous areas had no water at all and crops had been dry and trees had died. The number of people without drinking water had reached 8       ,280,000 by the end of March.

The drought shows there is a great shortage in water building work. Over half of the farmland in the country depends on much rainfall. The drought brought farmers direct loss of 24. 6 billion yuan.

There has not been any clear idea to show that the southwestern drought is caused by global warming. In fact,we shouldn’t simply regard global warming as the reason of the drought. There used to be many lakes in Guizhou.
