Many people asked me how I started Pajama (睡衣) Program, but in fact, it seemed that Pajama Program came to me. I never planned to start it. In the beginning, I just wanted to find my purpose (意義) in life.

I visited a children’s home. I read to them in the evening once a week. One night I watched them go to sleep. There was no changing clothes, no bedtime stories, no hugs from parents. I felt sad. A few weeks later, it seemed that a “raindrop” fell onto my head and the words PAJAMA PROGRAM spoke to me loud. Then I started to tell everyone to give me new pajamas for my birthday, Christmas ..., and I gave them to children in need. And then I found my purpose in life.

During all this time, I never stopped thinking about escape(逃跑).When I travelled across to the other side of the island, I could see the other islands, and I said to myself, "Perhaps I can get there with a boat. Perhaps I can get back to England one day."

They learned to take food from me, and soon I had goats' milk to drink every day. I also worked hard in my corn(玉米)fields. And so, many years went by.
