When I was about 12 years old, I really wanted a new bike! I told my patents my birthday wish, but I knew there was little hope because my family was very poor.
On my birthday, my parents showed me my gift. It was a bike, but it wasn’t the bike that I thought it would be. It was pink, old and worn(磨損的) with age. I was so disappointed(失望)! I thought I hurt my parents’ feelings because I could see the disappointment on their faces and I was sure they could see it on mine. I got on the old bike and rode it. I didn’t want my parents to see my disappointment. So I put on a smile, rode as fast as I could and didn’t look back.
As time went by, I began to understand my parents. They gave me something much more than just an old bike. They gave me a life lesson about love. When you give something out of love, it doesn’t matter what it is in fact. I like to remember this story because giving a gift is not about money. It’s about how much love you can feel from it. Do remember, a gift that costs(花費) two dollars isn’t any less valuable(貴重的) than the one that costs one hundred dollars, or even more.

Are people less happy or happier when they get older? If your answer is “happier”, then you are right, a survey found that people usually become happier after they are fifty years old. Stress(壓力) levels(等級) drop quickly after people reach their fifties.
The findings came from a Gallup survey of more than three hundred and forty thousand adults in the United States. At that time, the people were between the ages of eighteen and eighty-five.
The survey found that adults between the ages of twenty-two and twenty-five have more stress than others.
Levels of happiness were the highest among the kids and those in their early seventies. The survey also found that men and women have similar emotional patterns(情感模式) as they grow older. However, women at all ages like telling their sadness, stress and worry than men do.
Why would happiness increase(增長) with age? One reason is that, as people get older, they become more thankful for what they have and they can control their emotions better. They spend less time thinking about bad experiences.
