Lifelong Learning (終身學(xué)習(xí))
In the past, when students graduated from college and got jobs, only some of them went on with their study. But today, lifelong learning is becoming more and more common.
Lucy, who is forty, teaches physics at a college in Boston. “Next term, I’ll teach some of my classes by using the Internet. This is the way of teaching that I’ve never used before,” says Lucy. “These days, I am taking a class to learn how to teach in this way. If not, I will lose my job.” At the same time, Lucy’s seventy-year-old parents, who live in New York, are taking an art history class online. “We love this subject,” says her father, “and we learn it to enjoy ourselves. You see we can study with people all over the world. What fun it is to learn like this!”

If a snake bites you, take a photo with your mobile phone! It may save your life. This is the surprising advice of a British cook.
One day Henry Jackson was working in a restaurant kitchen. He picked up a dish from the table, and suddenly a snake appeared…and bit him on the hand.
“I went to try to pick it up and it bit me again. I threw it across the kitchen, and it landed in the fridge. So I closed the door,” Mr. Jackson said.
Anyway, Mr. Jackson stayed cool and he took a photo of the snake with his mobile phone. Soon his hand began to ache and he went to hospital. Then his chest began to hurt. Doctors couldn’t say what was wrong because they didn’t know what kind of snake it was. Then Mr. Jackson remembered his mobile phone photo. The doctors sent it to London Zoo. When they knew the kind of snake, they could give Mr. Jackson the right medicine, and he left hospital the next day.

Arms· How you hold your arms shows how open and receptive(接受的)you are to people you meet.If you keep your arms to the sides of your body or behind your back, this suggests you are not afraid of‘ asking on whatever comes your way.Outgoing people usually use their arms with big movements while quieter people keep them close to their bodies. If someone makes you angry, just cross your arms to show you’re unhappy!
Head· when you want to show your confidence, keep your head level(平直).If you are monitor in class, you can also take on this position(姿勢(shì))when you want your words to be taken seriously. However, to be friendly in listening or speaking, you must move your head a little to one side.
Legs.Your legs will move around a lot more than normal when you are nervous or telling lies.If you are at interviews, try to keep them still.

An important question about eating out is who pays for the meal. If a friend of yours asks you to have lunch with him, you might simply say something like this, “I’m afraid I’ll have to find a cheap place because I don’t have 1) _______ ________.” The other person may say, "OK., I’ll meet you at McDonald’s. "This means that the two agree to go Dutch, that is, each person pays for himself. He may also say, "Oh, no. I want to take you to lunch at Johnson’s ", or "I want you to try the steak(牛排) there. It’s great. "This means the person wants to pay for both of you. If you feel friendly towards this person, you can go with him, and you needn’t pay for the meal. You may simply say, "Thank you. That would be very nice."
American customs(習(xí)俗) about who pays for a date(約會(huì)) are much the same as those in other parts of the world.3) In the old days, American women wanted men to pay for all the meals. But, today, a woman who is a university(大學(xué)) student or is working in the business world will usually pay her own way during the date. If a man asks her to dinner, outside the normal working hours ,it means "come as my guest(客人). " So you can see it is better for you to make the question clear at the very beginning.

We need to be responsible for our environment. Being a frugal consumer(節(jié)儉的消費(fèi)者) is one way to help. But,what exactly does that mean?
Use It Up. You can use things up instead of wasting them. Squeeze that last bit of toothpaste out of the tube. Use the last little piece of soap. Don’t  throw away any bits of the biscuit at the bottom of the box.
Wear It Out. You do not always need to have new things. Suppose your sneakers have broken laces, but they still fit you. Repair them and wear them longer. You don’t have the latest iPhone until the old one doesn’t work any more. Then you can get a new one. Think twice before replacing something that still works.
Make It Do. When something you want is not on hand, look for something else that you already have to take its place. Suppose you are packing your lunch for tomorrow and want a butter sandwich. You are out of butter. Have a cheese sandwich instead so that you can use all of the cheese. Learn to fix broken toys instead of just throwing them away. With a little thought, you can make something do,instead of buying something new.
Do Without. Think about all those things that you would like to have. Do you really need them? How long will you really play with that new toy you saw on TV? Making the things that we want uses up your world’s  resources(資源)。 And, getting rid of the things we don’t want any more takes up even more resources and space.
小題1: What do we need to be responsible for?(請(qǐng)將答案寫在答題紙上)

小題3: When do we need to get a new iPhone?(同上)
