Do you want to make friends with others? Please remember to keep your words all the time. In this way, people around you will get along well with you.
To make friends and keep them, you have to keep your words. If you agree to meet someone at a certain time, you should arrive at the place on time or a little earlier. If you agree to help others, you must do it. Of course if there is something unexpected(沒有預(yù)料到的) happening and you can’t do what you have agreed to do, your friends will understand this.
He is always lying or making excuses for breaking his words. Would you like to have him as one of your best friends? You wouldn’t. And your own friends feel the same way.
So, be more careful when you have to agree to do something for your friends. Don’t have “Maybe”in your mind when you say something about what you are going to do.

In the 13th century(世紀(jì)), the famous Italian traveller, Marco Polo, travelled a long way to China.During his stay in China, he saw many wonderful things. One of the things he discovered was that the Chinese used paper money. In western countries, people did not use paper money until the 15th century. However, people in China began to use paper money in the 7th century(世紀(jì)).
A Chinese man called Cai Lun invented(發(fā)明) paper almost 2,000 years ago. He made it from wood. He took the wood from trees and made it into paper. He then put these pieces of paper together and made them into a book. Now paper still comes from trees. We use a lot of paper every day. If we keep on wasting(浪費(fèi))so much paper, there will not be any trees left on the earth. If there are no trees, there will be no paper. Every day, people throw away about 2,800 tons(噸) of paper in our city. It takes 17 trees to make one ton of paper. This means that we are cutting nearly 48,000 trees every day. Since it takes more than 10 years for a tree to grow, we must start using less paper now. If we don't, we will not have enough time to grow more trees to take the place of those we use for paper.
So how can we save paper? We can use both sides of every piece of paper, especially when we are making notes. We can choose drinks in bottles instead of those in paper packets. We can also use cotton handkerchiefs (手帕) and not paper ones. When we go shopping, we can use fewer paper bags. If the shop assistant gives us a paper bag, we can save it and reuse it later.
Everyone can help to save paper. If we all think carefully, we can help protect(保護(hù)) trees. But we should do it now , before it is too late.

Pure Brightness Festival, also known as Tomb-sweeping Day in China, falls on the 4th or 5th of April each year. It was started in the Han Dynasty. On this day, whole families, young and old, with flowers visit the graves of their ancestors to pay their respects. Following the custom, tomb sweepers clean and tidy the graves, decorate them with flowers. They burn paper money made for the dead, set off firecrackers and bow before their ancestors’ tombstones. I was offered several part-time jobs at university. Finally I decided to give one of them a go. Now I work in a dining hall on campus(校園). My main duties are to serve food and wash dishes.
I discovered I would have to stand still for at least three hours at a time and was afraid it was not going to be as much fun as I had thought. Smiling all the time and remembering all the strange food names have been a challenge(挑戰(zhàn)), too.
I have had really funny experiences. One of the sauces is called "marinara" which is a kind of tomato-based sauce like salsa(辣茄醬). Before I knew what it was, someone asked me to give him the sauce, and I replied: "What? The marijuana(大麻) sauce?" He was astonished. Marijuana is an illegal(非法的 ) drug and has nothing to do with sauce. It was quite embarrassing(使人尷尬的)! I have never forgotten the word "marinara" since then.
I also had to make a wrap(卷餅) for the first time. I had tasted Mexican wraps many times in China, but making one was a different matter. I could feel my face was burning with sweat and embarrassment as I broke the thin wraps again and again while people were waiting impatiently. Mexican wraps taste great when they're soft, but I do wish they could be made thicker and harder so they wouldn't break so easily.
My favorite part of the job is working in the kitchen. I hold the water cannon(水槍) like a policeman about to fight with "criminals” ----the dirty dishes. It's quite exciting to feel the water rushing out of the pipe. I usually get thoroughly(徹底地) soaked, but it feels good, a bit like taking a shower. Sometimes our boss allows us to play music to cheer us up. I often hum along to the music while washing dishes.
This is my first experience of being a student worker. It is hard work, but it's turning out to be quite fun.

C.he had never tasted Mexican wraps before
D.he was proud of what he had made
小題3:What part of the job in the dining hall does the author like best?
A.Making Mexican wraps. B.Delivering food to customers.
C.Washing dishes in the kitchen.D.Making all sorts of sauces.
小題4:What does the underlined word “soaked “ mean? It means _______
A.濕透了的B.酗酒的C.浸泡的D.滲出的
小題5:What is the point in the article?
A.To describe the writer’s fun campus life in the US.
B.To explain the culture of part-time work in the US.
C.To teach readers how to make Mexican wraps.
D.To share the author’s experience of part-time work.
