Researchers have found that there are some basic things that you can do to become happier.
◆Self
Yourself includes your education, your health, and your sense of purpose. It is important to take care of yourself and to connect the people around you. First, find a hobby. This gives you a chance to meet people with similar interests. You can also volunteer. Volunteering takes the focus off your own problems and makes you feel grateful for what you have.
◆Home
Create a quieter, dark area where you can sit and relax. Paint your living room yellow – it can increase energy and improve mood (情緒). It also helps to own a pet. Pets can make their owners feel calm, and provide love and friendship.
◆Financial (財務(wù)的) life
According to Ed Diener, the key to greater well-being is to have money, but not to want it too much. Try to spend money on things that give you long-lasting pleasure. Buy things that will enrich your life, such as music lessons and dinners with friends and family.
◆Social life
Have friends that encourage you to eat right, to be active, to laugh, and to do your best. Meet with your friends regularly and share with them when you have more of something than you need. Support each other in difficult times.
◆Workplace
Your office should be a place that you like. Find a job with people that you enjoy being around. That includes your boss. And do something that you feel strongly about. That is more important than money.
◆Community
If possible, live near people who have about the same amount of money as you. This makes you less aware (意識到的) of what you don’t have. Live in a neighborhood where you feel safe and where you can walk a lot. Walking makes you healthier, and healthier people are happier people.

Every morning, the newspaper chief editor(主編) holds a meeting with the reporters. They discuss the main events(事件) of the day. Reporters are then sent to cover the events.
As soon as the reporters know what to write about, they get down to work. They telephone people and fix a time for a face-to-face interview with them. Sometimes they do telephone interviews. Checking information is very important. They go to the newspaper’s own library to look up any information that they need. This is called “doing one’s homework”.
At the same time, the picture editor decides which photographs will be used for the next day’s paper. All the people who work on a newspaper must be able to work fast. Reporters have to stop working on one story and start working at once on the important new one. They must find out the new information as quickly as possible. Later in the day, everything is put together at the news desk. Reporters return, type their stories into the computer and hand them to the editor.
The chief editor decides which will be the most important story on the front page. Sometimes this will have to be changed if something more important happens late in the day. Other editors read the stories which the reporters have written and make any necessary changes.
Finally, there is no more time left for adding new stories, and the time for printing(印刷) the newspaper has come. This is done on fast-moving printing machines. The giant panda is one of the most popular animals in the world. A giant panda can grow up to 1.5 meters long and weigh up to 160kg. People think the giant panda is very lovely. ①So it is not surprising that the World Wide Fund for Nature chose the giant panda as its symbol. The WWF tells people about animals that they are in danger and raises money to save them.
The giant panda only lives in the wild in China. In the early 1980s, were only 1,000 left in the wild. The main reason why pandas are endangered is that the area where pandas can live has become smaller.
The WWF works to help giant pandas in the wild in many ways. One of the ways that helps them is to increase the size of panda reserves(自然保護(hù)區(qū)). Some reserves need to be joined together by planting bamboo between them to make “corridors”. These are paths that lead from one reserve to another. No one may harm the pandas in these areas. In today’s world many people seem to be hungry for money. Some of them even have lost their lives for it. Money does have a great effect on the poor, but if a person has a rich life, a lot more money doesn’t mean more happiness.
If money were everything, all millionaires would have true love, real friendship, health and a long life. However, this is not always true.
Nothing else is more pleasant than the three words “I love you”, but can love be bought? I’m afraid not . Love means “give”, not “take”. Health and a long life are precious things for every person. Well, can health and a long life be bought with money? The answer is “No”. Of all the people who live longest in the world, few of them are millionaires. Real friendship can’t be bought, either.
In a word, where money is worshiped, money can cause brothers to quarrel, lovers to hate, strangers to fight and so on, No matter how much money you have, it is still not enough to make you a happy person if you have no one to laugh with and no one to cry for.

To Max
Today we had to let you go,
It broke our hearts in two,
We had to leave you at that place,
Alone and feeling blue,
The only thing that we could do,
Was to drive back home and cry,
For we just couldn’t keep you,
No matter (無論) how we tried,
You’ll never be forgotten,
