Today I went to Sam's school in the UK. It was really different from my school in China.

Girls wore grey skirts and white shirts, boys wore grey trousers, and everyone wore the school tie.

Some of Sam’s lessons were a bit strange for me. We were reading Shakespeare in the English lesson, and there were quite some old words like “thou” and “thee” to mean “you”. In history we studied 20th Century China. It was strange hearing a foreign side of history—and hearing English people trying to say all our Chinese names!

Classes were also a lot more relaxing than in China. Teachers were called “sir” or “miss”, everyone shouted answers and raised their hands in classes. It was more like a debate than a class. A bell rang at the end of each lesson and everyone jumped up to go to the next class.

At break we bought potato chips and cookies in the dining room. Lunch was later than in China at 1 o’clock. We had big plates of pie with carrots. For dessert there was hot sweet rice called rice pudding.

It was good that I'd had an excellent lunch, because at Sam’s school, Monday afternoons are taken up with sports.

I played my first game of netball—a bit like basketball, but with some differences. Fortunately(幸運(yùn)的是), I’d had a quick look in the rule book before I tried to join in the game.

4.What’s the best title for the passage?

A. Relaxed classes in the UK

B. Clothes, food and sports in a UK school

C. Strange lessons in Sam’s school

There are many things we need to know that we do not learn at school. For example, if we want to use our money wisely, we need to shop carefully. We need to know how to compare the prices of things in different shops. We need to be able to compare the quality of different brands(品牌). We need to know how to make a choice when we shop.

Knowing how to make such choices is a “l(fā)ife skill”, and we need these skills if we are to live useful and happy lives.

Some of these choices are small. For example, will I take an apple for lunch or a pear? Will I go to school by bus or on foot? Will I wear the red T-shirt or the blue one to the movies? Other choices are more important. For example, will I eat healthy food for lunch or will eat junk food because it is tastier? Will I work hard in all my classes or will I only work hard in the classes I enjoy? We make choices like this every day.

In September 2013, the China National Tourism Administration(國(guó)家旅游局)issued a new

set of tourist guideline in order to improve tourists' behavior when they travel abroad. Although the 64-page handbook contains suggestions for Chinese tourists when traveling at home, the mainpurpose is to improve the poor reputation(聲譽(yù))of Chinese tourists abroad.

In 2013, more than 83 million Chinese people traveled overseas, up 18 percent from the year

2012, according to the China Tourism Academy. But even as they travel farther, the Chinese

tourists continue to take bad habits with them. From damaging ancient Egyptian temples to letting

children defecate(排便)in the middle of airports, Chinese tourists have earned a bad fame.

Chinese Vice-Premier Wang Yang even stressed the need for Chinese tourists to behave better

while traveling overseas so as to protect China's image abroad.

Now with the latest "guidebook", Chinese travelers should have no excuse for rude

behavior. According to the guidelines, when using the restroom, Chinese tourists are asked not to forget to flush the toilet after using it.

The guidelines also remind tourists of not fighting with others when they want to take pictures

at tourist attractions. When flying, the guidelines advise travelers not to take life vests(救生衣)away from airplanes.

Chinese tourists are also encouraged to be respectful of local customs wherever they travel. In

the United Kingdom, for example, it is not polite to ask people。Where are you going?" or

“Have you eaten?", the handbook says.

Nevertheless, with a very short history of traveling overseas, it is not surprising that many

Chinese tourists behave badly on their foreign trips. We should give them time to change.
