Worries about school bus safety have drawn much attention. Now schools in some poor areas are looking   41  some other ways to go to school.
In the countryside, students are living in different places. And there isn’t enough   time for school buses to go around and pick up   42  student. So the most useful way is to let students living in the   43  village take a special school bus which is for them only. And the cost is   44  by their parents and the school.
Each bus is asked to carry only five students on the same route(路線) every day. Traffic police are also making daily checks to make sure drivers don’t carry__45  than 5 students. For a bus like this, the drivers can   46  make any money. So schools pay 300 yuan to drivers every month. The rest comes from the parents’ pockets(口袋).
The roads to the students’ homes are rough(崎嶇的) and sometimes even dangerous,   47  falling rocks and narrow(狹窄的) bridges. After spending at least an hour on the road, the students finally make it home.   48 the money for taking a bus has increased and it’s not easy for parents to make money, they are glad to know that their children will   49  home safely each day. And they feel happy to see their child enjoy their time at school. But one girl says she’s seen the big yellow school   50  on TV, and wonders when she’ll ride one of her own.

Do you like drinking Coke? As a symbol of American culture, Coca-Cola is liked by many people, especially young people all around the world. But from now on, perhaps it will be hard for students in the US to get it on campus. A new agreement will end almost all sales of high-sugar fizzy drinks in US schools. The agreement allows only unsweetened juice, low-fat milk and water in primary and middle school vending machines(自動售貨機)and cafeterias. Former American president Bill Clinton helped the American Heart Association and the beverage industry(飲料業(yè)) to come up with the agreement. He suffered from a weight problem and has had a heart operation since leaving the White House. He takes the agreement as “a bold step forward in the struggle to help 35 million young people lead healthier lives”.
Rising childhood obesity(肥胖)has become a big problem in America. A federal report noted that obesity has tripled among teenagers in the past 25 years. It called for new limits on the marketing of junk food to children. Soda is a particular target because of its caloric content and popularity among children.
Britain has already taken similar steps to fight obesity. A recent study shows that people in the UK are much healthier than the people in the US. However, it’s better late than never. Wind is the great maker of waves. There are exceptions (例外), such as the tidal (潮汐的) waves sometimes caused by earthquakes under the sea. But the waves most of us know are caused by winds blowing over the sea .
Now let’s learn some physical (自然地理學的) things about it. A wave has height, from low point to high point . It has length (長度)--the distance from this high point to that of the following wave. The period of the wave means the time it takes for succeeding high points to pass a fixed point. None of these things stays the same--for all depend upon (依靠)the wind, upon the depth (深度) of the water and many other matters.
The water that makes up a wave does not advance with it across the sea. Each drop of water turns around in a little circle with the passing of the wave, but returns very nearly to its original position (原先的位置). And it is lucky that this is so. For if the huge groups of water that make up a wave really moved across the sea, sailing would be impossible. If we want to find the speed of a wave, we may use the following way : Speed =" wavelength" × frequency (頻率).
Here, wavelength is the distance between two high points , frequency means the number of cycles per second
小題1:What causes waves?
A.Earthquakes and nothing else. B.Only wind.

B.The water of a wave remains almost at the same place.
C.The water of a wave goes with the passing of the wave.
D.The length of a wave means the distance from the top of a wave to the bottom.
小題3:The speed of Wave 1 is 100 cm/s, frequency 10. The frequency of Wave 2 is 300, while its speed is twice that of Wave 1. Which of the following is right?
A.The wavelengths of the two are equal.
B.The wavelength of Wave 1 is 10 times longer than that of Wave 2.
C.The wavelength of Wave 2 is longer than that of Wave 1.
D.The wavelength of Wave 1 is longer than that of Wave 2.
小題4:Where can we find this passage?
A.music magazineB.fashion magazineC.scientist magazineD.sports magazine

The world has many beautiful sounds. We can hear the songs of birds and the laugh of people. We can listen to the cool music and news reports. And it’s all because of our ears! They bring us a world of sounds.
But some people can’t hear any sound at all. Some are born deaf. Others can hear well in their childhood, but too many loud sounds hurt their ears later on.
Many people in China can’t hear ordinary sounds clearly. A large number of them are children. Most of them are born with good hearing. But six children of every 1,000 have hearing problems when they are born. And if a child has hearing problems, he or she usually will also have some learning problems at school.
A lot of things can cause hearing problems. For example, too much earwax is not good for our hearing. And noise louder than 85 decibels (分貝) can hurt our ears and make us lose our hearing for a short time or even for ever.
Hearing is important for all of us. So we should do our best to give our ears special care. Don’t forget to do the following:
● Try to stay away from places with too much noise. If you have to go, wear earplugs. A pair of good earplugs can cut the noise by 30 decibels.
● When swimming, remember to put earplugs into your ears to stop water from getting in.
● Never put anything sharp into your ears. If you think you have too much earwax, ask your mum or dad to help you clean it out.
Keep these things in mind! Then you won’t be saying “WHAT? WHAT?” when you are older.

Height is just one of the thousands of features (特征) that your genes (基因) decide. In fact, because you have two parents, your genes provide you a height that usually lands somewhere between the height of each parent. If both your parents are tall, then maybe you will be tall, too, but if you have questions about how tall you’re going to be, ask your doctor if he or she can help you find it out.
But genes don’t decide everything. For example, eating an unhealthy diet can keep you from growing to your full potential (潛力). Getting enough sleep and enough exercise will help you grow to the right height.
No doubt you’re wondering how fast you should grow. There’s no perfect or right answer. Kids grow about 2 inches (5 centimetres) a year between age 3 and the time when they start puberty (when your body starts changing and becoming more grown up).
Your doctor will know how your growth has been going over the years. Two centimetres here and 2 inches there are not nearly as important as the height you’re at now, how you’ve been growing up to this point, and what other changes your body may be going through.
Don’t be scared if you seem to have grown a lot in a very short time. Everyone has a very quick growth during puberty. The age for starting puberty is about 10 for girls and about 11 for boys. But it can be earlier or later – between 7 and 13 for girls, 9 and 15 for boys.
You’ll usually begin to notice that you’re growing faster about a year after your body starts to show the first changes of puberty.

A.how good it is to be a doctor

D.You may be scared sometimes when you grow too fast.

Did you see snow in your hometown last winter? Did you feel it was warmer than before?
"There have been 21 warm winters in China since 1986," said scientists. They also said that in the past 100 years, as the global (全球的) temperatures went up by 0.74 °C , the temperature in North China has climbed 1.4 °C in only 50 years.
China needs to take quick action to cut carbon dioxide emission (排放)
because it's the main reason for global warming. The good news is that China has seen the importance of going green. China set the goal of cutting energy use by 20% and pollution emission by 10% in the 11th Five-Year Plan.
Can you slow down global warming? Sure! You and your family can take steps to cut the amount of carbon dioxide that is sent out into the air.
Here are some pieces of advice to help you save the earth..
Wear used clothes. Wearing your brother's, sister's or dad's old T-shirt means you save the energy.
Change your light bulbs (燈泡). Use energy-saving light bulbs. And don't forget to turn off the lights when you leave a room and turn off your television and computer when they are not in use!
Ride the bus. Taking a bus saves a lot of oil every year.
Say no to plastic bags. The next time your parents go to the market, ask them to use baskets
Open a window. Don't use the air conditioner, and let some fresh air in. When you have to use the conditioner, set the temperature higher in the summer and lower in the winter to save energy.

Some teenagers think that newspapers are boring and only for adults. But that's not true. There are many interesting stories in the paper. You just need to make clear what you are looking at. “I spend about half an hour reading newspapers every day,” said 15-year-old Gao Ming from Beijing. “I'm interested in things happening at school.” School news is just one kind of news story in newspapers. There's also world news: from international problems to pop stars.
Read the newspaper carefully, we'll find different types of articles on the pages:
News stories — these stories are about events. Reporters try to show all points of a story to help readers understand what happened. Reporters try to speak to as many people as possible. They also use pictures and numbers to show the readers that the stories are true. The newspaper Teenagers has lots of news stories on the news page and front page. When we read them, we learn more about the facts, not the writers’ ideas.
Opinion writing — opinion writing is usually about something happening right now. But it isn't just facts. Here writers add their own opinions to the news. Writers pick only the facts that help back up their ideas. They make readers believe that they are telling the truth. This is usually the kind of story that gets people thinking. Dolphins are not fish. They are mammals (哺乳動物).They live in groups and speak to each other in their own language. But they are quite different from almost all land animals. Their brain(大腦)is as big as men's and they live a long life at least 20 or 30 years.
Like some animals, dolphins use sounds to help them find their way around. They also use these sounds to talk to each other and to help them find food. They do not use their ears to receive sounds, but use the jaw--the lower part of the mouth.
It is strange that dolphins are friendly to men, and for thousands of years, there are many stories about dolphins and men. In the 19th century, in a dangerous part of the sea near New Zealand, there was a dolphin. The seamen liked him very much and gave him a very good name, Jack. From 1871 to 1903 ,Jack met every boat in the area and showed it the way. In 1903 a passenger on a boat with the name of The Penguin shot and hurt Jack. Luckily the dolphin didn't die, and after a long time he was well again. He guided the ships through the area for nine more years, but he refused to help the boat of the Penguin.
