We drink tea every day. But more than three hundred years ago most of the people in Europe (歐洲) did not know anything about tea. Some people heard about it,but very few of them know what to do with it.
There is a story about an English sailor (水手) who went to countries in the east, the west and the south. He went to India and China. One day he came home and brought some tea as a present for his mother. She told her friends about the present and asked them to a "tea party". When her friends came to the "tea party",the old woman offered (給) them brown tea-leaves (茶葉). The old woman's friends began to eat them. Of course, nobody liked the tea-leaves.
At that time the sailor came in. He looked at the table and said,"Mother, what have you done with the tea?"
"I boiled (煮) it,as you said."
"And what did you do with the water?"
"I threw it away,of course." answered the old woman.
"Now you may throw away the leaves, too," said her son.

Today the word friendship has been used so often that it has lost its meaning. Some jokingly or seriously say that friends are made to be used. It makes me very sad.
True friendship doesn’t mean that when you need your friend’s help, you will treat him to dinner, and when you have to protect yourself, you will put your friends in a difficult situation.
In fact, true friendship is the communication and understanding of the hearts(心).
True friendship is like water. Compared wish decent wine, water is tasteless, but is of great help when we are thirsty. True friends don’t need to be with each other every day,but are connected in heart every minute.
True friendship is like medicine. Though it is bitter,it cures your illness. True friends give you some suggestions even if they know you would not take. They criticize you when others have a good word for you,not because of envy but worrying that you may lose your cool head.
True friendship has nothing to do with fame, power or money. True friends would often watch you silently far away when you are influential, but come to you whenever you need their help. You’re not his stepping-stone to success, but are his crutch to live through difficulties.
True friends make you complete. Many persons go along with you through your life─your parents, your spouse, and your children, who take care of you and make your life happy. However, you still need someone who understands your thoughts and souls. Without them, you are likely to be unhealthy in spirit.
True friends stay in your heart, rather than at your side;they know you more than yourself, and try to better you.

Some people think only school children do not agree with their parents, however, it is not true. Communication is a problem for parents and children of all ages. If it’s hard for you to communicate with your parents, don’t worry about it. Here are some advice for you to bridge the generation gap (代溝).
Don’t argue with your parents. Don’t get to your parents when you are angry. Your parents probably won’t consider your ideas if you are shouting at them. And you can’t express yourself well if you are angry. Go some place to cool off. Make sure you understand why you are unhappy. Then think about what you want to say to your parents. If you don’t think you can speak to them at the moment, try writing a letter.
Try to reach a compromise (和解). Perhaps you and your parents disagree on something. You can keep your disagreement and try your best to accept each other. Michael’s mother didn’t agree with him about buying a motorcycle. They argued over it. But they finally came to a compromise. Michael bought the motorcycle, but only drove it on certain days.
Of course, your parents might refuse to compromise on something. In these situations, it is especially important to show love and respect (尊敬) to them. Showing respect will keep your relationship strong.
Talk about your values. The values of your parents are probably different from those of your own. Tell your parents what you care about, and why. Understanding your values might help them see your purposes in life.
A good relationship with your parents can make you a better and happier person. It is worth having a try!

A baby carrier is like a backpack for carrying a baby. Ann Moore introduced the idea of a baby carrier to American people nearly 50 years ago.
Ann spent two years in Africa in the early 1960s. She worked as a nurse there. Ann saw babies wrapped in bright cloth tied to their mothers’ backs. The babies snuggled (依偎) close to their mothers, and the mothers could use their hands to do other things.
In 1964, Ann had her own baby. She tried making a carrier like the one African mothers used. The carrier was like a backpack. Everywhere Ann went with her baby in the carrier, people asked, “Where can I buy one?” In 1965, Ann and her mother began to sell handmade carriers. Ann received a patent (專利) for the baby carrier in 1969. By that time, the baby carrier had leg holes and straps (帶子) that could be made longer or shorter. It could also be worn on the back or front.
By 1979, the baby carriers were made in a factory. These baby carriers cost less to make and more than 25,000 were sold every month.
When Ann made her first baby carrier, she just wanted to keep her baby close and still have her hands free to do other things. Now all over the world babies ride in baby carriers, close to their parents, safe and happy.

The Optimus Prime (擎天柱) model on Zhu Xiaoxuan’s desk looks small–only 30cm high. But it may be the first Transformers (變形金剛) toy made by a 3-D printer (打印機(jī))in China.
Zhu, 14, from Shijiazhuang Foreign Language School, designed it himself. Zhu is a big Transformers fan. In winter vacation, when he saw news that people abroad made many things with 3-D printers, he quickly thought of printing a 3-D model of his favorite Transformer: Optimus Prime.
But where did he start? Zhu went to a local 3-D printing company and found that he first needed to design a digital (數(shù)碼的) 3-D model. However, the software is much for difficult for a teenager to learn.Feeling challenged, Zhu decided to have a try. He found a video online that showed how to use the microsoft. He watched it and learnt hundreds of computer commands (命令).
After three days of hard work, he built the arms. But they turned out to be too long. Zhu had to re-design it. “The model has 96 parts and almost every part needs to be adjusted (調(diào)整). You can imagine how many times I have failed,” Zhu said.
Finally, over 20 days later, Zhu completed the design and had Optimus Prime printed out.
