Americans love sports . But this hobby sometimes has serious results—at least to the players. For example, when people play tennis, sometimes they hurt their elbow(肘部). Also it is easy to hurt a knee in a football game. These injuries(毀傷)happen while the player is having fun, but they still hurt.
A few months ago, Kathleen Simmons, who loves playing volleyball, hurt her knee in a volleyball game. Her doctor told her that she needed a very difficult operation(手術(shù))or she might not be able to play again. She felt very sad
Then Simmons learned about “video operation”. With the help of this new science in medicine, doctors can now repair many injuries.
For this operation, her doctor didn’t have to open her knee. Instead he put a very small camera lens(鏡頭)inside her knee. The lens sent back pictures, which appeared on a television screen. As he worked, he could see the inside of her knee on the TV. With the help of the large pictures on the screen, the doctor knew exactly what to do when he was making the repairs.
Simmons started walking five days after her operation. “My knee hurt a lot the first few days,” she said. “But I felt better very quickly.” Now, six months after her operation, Simmons can do everything she did before her injury. “It feels like a new knee,” she said. “I can even play volleyball again.”
【小題1】Do Americans love sports?
【小題2】What sport is Simmons interested in?
【小題3】What did the doctor put inside Simmons’ knee?
【小題4】What problem may people have when they play sports?
【小題5】Can Simmons do everything like before?

【小題1】Yes. /Yes, they do.
【小題2】Volleyball.
【小題3】A camera lens.
【小題4】They may get hurt.
【小題5】Yes,she can.

What sport is Simmons interested in?
What did the doctor put inside Simmons’ knee?回原文,第四段,her doctor didn’t have to open her knee. Instead he put a very small camera lens (鏡頭) inside her knee.答案就有了,是 A (very)camera lens。
【小題4】問(wèn)題是 What problem may people have when they play sports?在文章第一段就提,····hurt their elbow·····,,····hurt a knee····,等等,可以概括,運(yùn)動(dòng)容易受傷嘛。所以答案是They may get hurt。相同意思都可以。
【小題5】根據(jù)文章最后一段可以找出問(wèn)題的答案。Simmons can do everything she did before her injury?芍卮餣es, she can.

Close contacts between Japan and the rest of the world were created in the twentieth century. In the last forty years, business contacts between Japan and the West have become very important. Many foreign companies now have offices in Japan and Japanese businessmen do business around the world. Differences between Japanese and Western ways of doing business, however, often bewilder foreign businessmen and make doing business in Japan difficult for foreigners.

The American businessman, for example, wants to start talking business immediately. He does not want to wait. The Japanese businessman, on the other hand, likes to arrive at decisions after giving them serious thought. Another thing foreign businessmen have difficulty in understanding is when a Japanese means “Yes” or “No”. This is because of cultural differences between Japanese and Western society(社會(huì)), Which make it difficult for a Japanese to say “No” directly.

In the USA, it is easy to say “No” to something one does not want to do. But in Japan, it is very difficult to say “No”. To refuse an invitation or a request(請(qǐng)求) with “No” is felt to be impolite. It is thought to be selfish and unfriendly. So instead of saying “No” directly, the Japanese have developed many ways to avoid(避免) saying “No”. These can help them avoid hurting other people’s feelings. However, this often makes their ways of doing business rather difficult for foreigners to understand and follow.

1.What often makes foreigners feel difficult to do business in Japan?

A. Their different ways of doing business.

B. Their different lifestyles.

C. The fact that the Japanese never say “No”.

D. The fact that the Japanese are slow to take action.

2. Which of the following is the closest in meaning to the underlined expression “bewilder foreign businessmen” in Paragraph One?

A. cause foreign businessmen to change their minds.

B. give a feeling of surprise to foreign businessmen.

C. attract foreign businessmen’s attention.

D. make foreign businessmen think wrongly.

3.What fact does the passage lead you to believe?

A. American businessmen do things more slowly than Japanese ones.

B. American businessmen like to say “Yes” and “No”.

C. Americans usually say what they are thinking.

D. Americans do not say what they think or feel clearly.

4.From the passage we can infer(推斷) that __________.

A. Japanese businessmen are good at business

B. foreign businessmen should try to know Japanese ways of doing business

C. foreign businessmen must be more polite

D. you must learn from Japanese businessmen if you want to succeed
