The earth is changing. Tomorrow it will be different. All the living things on the earth are changing. Even people are changing, and tomorrow you will be different.
There are many kinds of change, and many different things than cause change. People need to realize the changes, to learn to see them, and to learn what causes change.
Human beings must solve many problems so that they can continue to live successfully. War is one of these problems. Disease and natural disaster are problems. Having enough food and energy for the growing number of people in the world is a problem. Most problems can be solved, but some are impossible to solve. In the past, man did not have to think about the protection of the environment. There were few people on the earth, and natural resources(資源) seemed to be unlimited(無限的) .
Today things are different, the world has become too crowded. We are using up our natural resources too quickly and at the same time we are polluting our environment with dangerous chemicals (化學(xué)制品). If we continue to do this, human life on the ①_______ will ②_______ survive.
Everyone realizes today that if too many fish are taken from rivers and the sea, there will soon be none left. Yet, with modern fishing methods(方法) , more and more fish are caught. We know that if too many trees are cut down, forests will disappear and nothing will grow on the earth. Yet we continue to use bigger and more powerful machines to cut down more and more trees.
We realize that if rivers are polluted with waste products from factories, fish will die. However, in most countries wastes are still put into rivers or the sea, and there are few laws to prevent this. Also, weknow that if the population of the world is becoming larger and larger, in a few years there will not be enough food. What can we do to solve these problems?
If we eat more vegetables and less meat, there will be more food available for everyone.
Our natural resources will last longer if we learn to recycle(循環(huán)再用)them. The world population will not rise so quickly if people use modern methods of birth control.
Finally, if we educate people to think about the problems, we shall have a better and cleaner planet in the future. In a word, it is very important to protect our environment.

Recently, a solar-powered (太陽能動力的) plane took to the sky for the first time. It passed an important test on the way to travel around the world.

The plane took off from an airport in Switzerland. It slowly rose above the fields and into the sky.
“There has never been an airplane of that kind that could fly — never an airplane so big, so light, using so little energy,” said Bertrand Piccard, a leader of the project.
During the 90-minute flight(飛行), the plane did several turns. It climbed nearly 1.6km above the countryside.
Engineers plan to test a night flight before July. Then they will use the results of the tests to build a second plane. They plan to travel around the world in that plane in 2012.
“We want to fly it day and night with no fuel (燃料),” Piccard said.
Piccard and pilot(飛行員) Andre Borschberg will take the plane around the world. They will make a few stops to change places and rest after a long time in the air — and to show off their airplane.
The plane will fly at 70 km per hour on average(平均). That is faster than a bike and slower than a car. The pilots will keep the plane in the air for up to five days at a time.

Fear may be felt in the heart as well as in the head, according to a study that has found a link between the cycles of a beating heart and the chance of someone feeling fear.
Tests on healthy volunteers found that they were more likely to feel a sense of fear at the moment when their hearts are contracting(收縮) and pumping(向---送出) blood around their bodies, compared with the point when the heartbeat is relaxed. Scientists say the results suggest that the heart is able to influence how the brain responds to a fearful event, depending on which point it is at in its regular cycle of contraction and relaxation.
Sarah Garfinkel at the Brighton and Sussex Medical School said: "Our study shows for the first time that the way in which we deal with fear is different depending on when we see fearful pictures in relation to our heart."
The study tested 20 healthy volunteers on their reactions to fear as they were shown pictures of fearful faces. Dr Garfinkel said, "The study showed that fearful faces are better noticed when the heart is pumping than when it is relaxed. So our hearts can also affect what we see and what we don't see - and guide whether we see fear."
To further understand this relationship, the scientists also used a brain scanner(掃描儀) to show how the brain influences the way the heart changes a person's feeling of fear. "We have found an important mechanism by which the heart and brain ‘speak’ to each other to change our feelings and reduce fear," Dr Garfinkel said.
"We hope that by increasing our understanding about how fear is dealt with and ways that it could be reduced, we may be able to develop more successful treatments for anxiety disorders, and also for those for those who may be suffering from serious stress disorder."

A.fear has something to do with one's health.

C.One's heart affects how he feels fear.
D.One’s fast heartbeats are likely to cause fear.
小題2:When are people more likely to feel a sense of fear ?

小題3:The study was carried out by analyzing (分析)_______.

C.volunteers' reactions to horrible pictures and data form their brain scans
D.different pictures shown to volunteers and their heart-brain communication
