4.A.Advantages of removing traffic signals
B.Opinions of the public
C.Opinions of the creator
D.The experiment with on light roads
E.Problems from abolishing traffic signals
F.Reasons for abolishing traffic signals

(61)F
What causes traffic jams?Too much cars, right? No!Some Brits are now saying that traffic lights are to blame for much of the congestion.
(62)A
A report from the Institute of Economic Affairs,a UK think tank(智囊團(tuán)),argues that abolishing traffic signals would decrease congestion, reduce exhaust emissions(廢氣排放) and improve safety. The report said that removing lights should also prevent other bad behavior caused by signals, such as speeding up to catch a green light. It would also avoid the wasted time when drivers have to sit at a red light even if no one is using the green.
(63)D
The idea may sound strange, but it's not new.Seven cities and regions in Europe are experimenting with no-light roads.Drachten in the Netherlands has got rid of 16 of its traffic light crossings and changed the other two to roundabouts under a"shared space"scheme. At crossings, cyclists dutifully raise their arm when they want to make a turn, and drivers follow a first-arrived,first-through approach and communicate by hand signals, nods and waving. The result?Typical journey time has been cut in half, and accidents and congestion have mostly disappeared.
(64)C
There have been small collisions but no problem, said Hans Monderman creator of the scheme."We want small accidents,in order to prevent serious ones.It works well because it's dangerous. The driver has to be responsible for his or her own risk."The many rules take away the ability to be considerate,"Monderman added."We're losing our responsibility for socially responsible behavior."
(65)B
So far,Drachten's locals have called the experiment a success."I am used to it now,"said Helena Spaanstra,24."You drive more slowly and carefully, but somehow you seem to get around town quicker."Tony Ooosward,70,was equally enthusiastic."I am a walker and now you are the boss at the crossroads, everyone waits for you.But at the same time walkers wait until there are a number of people wanting to cross at the same time."

What causes traffic jams?Too much cars'light?
62.A  上下文邏輯 根據(jù)下面一段中的關(guān)鍵詞,abolishing traffic signals would decrease congestion, reduce exhaust emissions(廢氣排放) and improve safety. The report said that removing lights should also prevent other bad behavior caused by signals, such as speeding up to catch a green light. A,Advantages of removing traffic signals移除交通燈的好處,優(yōu)點(diǎn),
64.C 下文理解 根據(jù)下一段中的關(guān)鍵詞said Hans Monderman creator of the scheme.
I am used to it now,"said Helena Spaanstra,24."You drive more slowly and carefully, but somehow you seem to get around town quicker."Tony Ooosward,70,was equally enthusiastic.,句意為24歲的Helena說(shuō)她已習(xí)慣沒(méi)有交通燈,70歲的Tony對(duì)此舉同樣有熱情,例舉了不同年齡層的人對(duì)廢除交通燈此舉的 贊成,所以選B.

9.What does it mean to day that we live in world of persuasion?It means that we live among competing interests.Your roommate's need to study for an exam take priority(優(yōu)先)over pizza.Your instructor may have good reasons not to change your grade.And the object of your romantic interest may have other choices.
In such a world,persuasion is the art of getting others to give fair and favorable consideration to our points of view.When we persuade,we want to influence what others believe and how they behave.We may not always prevail(占優(yōu)勢(shì))--other points of view may be more persuasive,depending on the listener,the situation,and the merits of the case.But when we practice the art of persuasion,we try to ensure that our position receives the attention it deserves.
Some people,however,object to the very idea of persuasion.They may regard it as an unwelcome approach to their lives or as a control.In contrast,we believe that persuasion is inevitable--to live is to persuade.Persuasion may be moral or immoral,selfless or selfish,inspiring or discouraging.Persuaders may enlighten our minds or make us hurt.Moral persuasion,however,calls on sound reasoning and is sensitive to the feelings and needs of listeners.Such persuasion can help us apply the wisdom of the past to the decisions we now must make.Therefore,an essential part of education is learning to resist the one kind of persuasion and to encourage and practice the other.
Beyond its personal importance to us,persuasion is a need to society.The right to persuade and be persuaded is the basic principle of the American political system.

D.getting other people to consider your reasonable points of view.

3.The vast jungles of the Amazon rainforest are home to tribes (部落) mostly isolated from the outside world,whose way of life,largely unchanged for hundreds of years,is now increasingly threatened by modern civilization.
Now,scientists discover they can monitor these"uncontacted tribes"using satellites, which would allow inexpensive and safe tracking of these tribes in order to protect them from outside threats.
In order to help preserve these uncontacted Indians,researchers need accurate estimates of their populations.One way to collect this data involves flying over their villages,but such over-flights are both expensive and could fill these native peoples with fear.Another strategy involves meeting individuals on the ground,but among other risks,scientists could accidentally spread disease to members of the tribes.
Instead,scientists investigated whether satellite images could monitor uncontacted tribes.The result was inspiring.They confirmed their locations and measured the sizes of their village,houses and gardens."We can find isolated villages with remote sensing and study them over time."Walker told Live Science."We can ask:Are they growing?Do they move?"
Surprisingly,based on the sizes of the houses and villages,the scientists find the population densities of these isolated villages are about 10times greater,on average,than other villages of native Brazilian peoples.This may be due to the fact that they have to live closer together because they are not as good at clearing the forest,since they lack modern devices like chainsaws and tractors,the researchers said.The tribes may also be afraid of spreading out due to fear of being attacked by outsiders,Walker said.
The researchers now plan to focus on 29more isolated villages to"look at their ecology-that is,distance from rivers and roads-and use this to model where else we can find more isolated villages,"Walker said.

C.They live closer together for defense.
D.They are contacting the outside world.
