【題目】Each year Worcestershire plays host to a huge variety of events and festivals. Many are large scale(大規(guī)模的) events that attract people from around Britain and the world.

Every Christmas Worcester holds a four-day Victorian themed street market, when the streets are lined with stalls selling traditional crafts, gifts and food. Live music to suit all tastes is a regular feature at Huntingdon Hall in Worcester.

The three Choirs(唱詩班) Festival is held in Worcester every third year (2008,2011,2014). The event is billed as(被宣傳為) Europe's oldest choral festival.

There are also much smaller scale events that take place throughout the year, such as village outdoor activities, beer festivals and the more quirky(離奇的), such as the asparagus auction(蘆筍拍賣會(huì)) that take place each May at the ancient Fleece Inn at Bretforton. The scarecrow(稻草人) event at Belbroughton is also very popular-- villagers make scarecrow and display their handiwork outside their homes, with all profits(利潤(rùn)) going to the country.

From Open air theatre and music or poetry performance to civil war re-enactments(再扮演), there is always something going on in this varied county throughout the year.

【題目】In the wild, lions tend to pick on the animals that are weak, old, sick or hurt. Even with the strength of their numbers they will go after the easy prey(捕獵).

The lions picked their prey of choice for this poor Gazelle. The Gazelle, surrounded by lions, looks as if she were crying when the camera closed up on her face.

The lions were faster than the Gazelle, and my goodness they were smart. When the lions got close enough to the Gazelle, even while running at speed, they would trip the running animal.

This Gazelle was moving. When pressure came from a different angle she changed directions. When she could feel the breath of the lions on her neck she changed direction. When they tried to trip her, stop her, trick her, block her, she changed direction. She ran until they stopped chasing after her. It was pointless to the lions. This Gazelle had purpose. She was running for her life.

I do not care what, who, when, where, or how often life tries to take you down a path you have not intended to go. If you feel the pressure and things are not going the way they should, change direction.

【題目】It was in the Victorian Era(維多利亞時(shí)期) that the novel became the leading form of literature in English. Most writers were more concerned to meet the tastes of the middle class. The best known works of the period included the works of Charles Dickens and the Bronté sisters and others.

Charles Dickens came on the literary scene in the 1830s. Dickens wrote vividly about London life and the struggles of the poor. Most of his works were written in a very humorous style, which was popular with readers of all classes.

The Bronté sisters were English writers of the 1840s and 1850s. They began to write from early childhood. In 1846 they published the first book at their own expense as poets; however, their book attracted little attention, selling only two copies. Then the sisters turned to writing novels, each producing a novel in the following year.

An interest in rural matters and the changing social and economic situation of the countryside may be seen in the novels of Thomas Hardy and a number of others.

Literature for children developed as a single style. Some works became well-known, such as those of Lewis Carroll and Edward Lear. Adventure novels were written for adults but are now generally grouped in the list for children. Helen Beatrix Potter was an English author at the end of the Victorian Era, best known for her children's books, which featured animal characters. In her thirties, Potter published the highly successful children's bookThe Tale of Peter Rabbitin 1902.

A. He described the struggles of the poor in London.

B. He showed an interest in rural matters in his writing.

2Which is TRUE about the Bronté sisters?

A. They were English writers of the 1830s.

D. adventure novels were not written for children at first

4This text is mainly about ________.
