I was grateful that my mother criticized me the other day. Last Sunday, I went out to play with my friends and didn’t tell my mother. I thought I must come back before she returned home. Unfortunately, Mother came back earlier than expected and found me not at home. She called me, but I lied to her I was at school doing my homework and would return before 5.a.m. But I enjoyed myself so happily that I forgot the time to go home and my promise completely. Of course, Mother was worried about me and hurriedly came to my classroom to find me. To her surprise and anger, I didn’t stay at school. When I returned home, it was approximately 6 o’clock. Mother looked angrily into my eyes without saying a word. I knew I broke her heart. I made big mistakes and felt extremely ashamed of my bad behavior. I was very unhappy with my parents the other day. I will never forget this terrible experience. They really hurt me deeply. During the national holiday last year, my parents were on business to Beijing. They left me alone at home to train me to live independently. When they came back, they found the room was a mess, with pizza boxes on the floor, dirty dishes in the sink and trash all over the place. Before I could explain the reason, Father shouted at me angrily and said this was not a family where bad behavior went unpunished. They didn’t know the truth and misunderstood me. Actually, that day my pet dog was terribly ill and I had to take it to the vet. It took me a lot of time to look after him. So I couldn’t spare any time to tidy my room. Having known the truth, they made an apology to me for not having listening to my explanation. They also swore that they would never blame me randomly if they didn’t figure out the reason. Finally I forgave them.
The most important reason why my parents treated me like that may be the traditional ideas of authority which most parents have when facing the children. Fortunately, although my parents misunderstood me , at last we made efforts to bridge the generation gap. I strongly believe that the openness and consideration probably will result in a much better relationship between parents and children.
