4.The concept of solitude (獨(dú)處) in the digital world is almost non-existent.In the world of digital technology,e-mail,social networking and online video games, information is meant to be(36)shared.Solitude can be hard to discover(37)onceit has been given up.In this respect, new technologies have(38)shapedour culture.
The desire to be connected has brought solitude to a(n)(39)endas we've known it.People have become so (40)reachablein the world of networks and connections that one can often be contacted (41)even ifthey'd rather not be.Today we can talk,text,e-mail,chat and blog (寫博客),not only from our(42)computers,but from our mobile phones as well.
Most developed nations have become (43)dependenton digital technology simply because they've grown accustomed to it,and at this point not(44)usingit would make them an outsider.(45)Also,many jobs and careers require people to be (46)connected.From this point of view, technology has changed the culture of work.Being reachable might feel like a(47)burdento those who may not want to be able to be contacted at all times.
I suppose the positive side is that solitude is still possible for anyone who (48)reallywants it.Computers can be shut (49)downand mobile phones can be turned off.The ability to be"connected"and"on"has many(50)advantages,as well as disadvantages.Travelers have ended up (51)loston mountains, and mobile phones have saved countless lives. They can also make people feel(52)trappedand forced to answer unwanted calls or(53)replyto unwanted texts.
Attitudes towards our connectedness as a society(54)varyacross generations. Some find today's technology a gift.Others consider it a curse.Regardless of anyone's view on the subject,it's hard to imagine what life would be like (55)withoutdaily advancements in technology.

The United Kingdom has voted to leave the European Union, a historic decision that will reshape the nation^ place in the world and is already upsetting governments across the continent. The surprising turn of events caused a fall in the financial markets, with the value of the British pound and stock prices falling.

The campaign to leave the EU won by 52 percent to 48 percent. More than 17 million people in the UK—made up of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland — voted to sever ties with the EU, a Political and economic partnership comprising 28 countries across Europe. About 16.1 million voted to remain.

The result raises serious questions about the future of the EU. The British go out from the union-nicknamed Brexit — is just the latest in a series of crises to annoy the EU. The alliance is already dealing with economic bad results from the global financial collapse of 2008, along with a record arrival refugees to Europe due in part to Syria’s civil war.

Some British citizens believe the EU has too much influence over Britain’s authority and that the country’s industries would be more profitable on their own. Others want Britain to reclaim control of its borders and reduce how many people enter the country to work They say the EU’s open-border policy allows unlimited numbers of immigrants to come in from poorer nations—and that those people take jobs from British workers. Those who campaigned to stay in the EU, meanwhile, argued that the UK and its economy is stronger within the alliance.

Now the UK will become the first nation to leave the European Union. The decision is a huge blow the alliance because Britain is one of its most powerful members. “The main impact will be massive disorder in the EU system for the next two years,” said Thierry de Montbrial, of the French Institute of International Relations. “There will be huge political change costs on how to solve the British exit.” The decision could also have a domino effect, he warned, with other countries following the UK’s lead and exiting the EU.

To me, inspirations mean to put my thoughts, heart, and creations into my jewelry. Sometimes I become so inspired with what I’m working on that I can finish one or more sets in less than an hour. Because of that feeling, I have named my jewelry collection “Inspirations”.

I am a 17-year-old student with sickle-cell anemia. With this, I am in and out of the hospital a lot. So I started making jewelry a year ago when I was in the hospital. I really needed something to do, so I was introduced to jewelry making by a child life expert.

One day while lying in my hospital bed, I decided to get up and go to the patient’s playroom ,and look through the craft designs. That was when I became inspired to design my jewelry collection, and named it “Inspirations”.

When I’m not sick, I try to keep a positive attitude through reading, schoolwork and craft activities. Even though there is a lot of work, I try to stay focused all the time. When I need a break or just to be free I turn to my craft activities. This is a way to ease my mind and it always helps me to especially get through those stressful times.

I am getting very excited about graduating next year and preparing myself for college. Who knows my collection of “Inspirations” would take me to the places I always dreamed of? I may see celebrities I admire and even sell them some of my beautiful “Inspirations”. If they wear my “Inspirations”, it will be well known and in great demand. What a great way to make some extra money for college! I never thought being sick would bring me “Inspirations”. I want people to look beyond my illness and see the creations I’ve made in my collection called “Inspirations”.

1.What does “sickle-cell anemia”refer to?

A. A hospital. B. An illness.

C. A place. D. A doctor.

2.What can we infer from the passage?

A. The writer plans to be a jewelry designer after graduation.

B. The writer wants to be a doctor in the future.

C. The writer will graduate from college next year.

D. The writer is a senior high school student.

3.What is the best title of the passage?

A. Create “Inspirations”.

B. How to Get Through Bad Times.

C. My Jewelry Collection.

D. My Illness.
