Today it is common to see people who walk about with colored wires hanging from their ears wherever they go. They move about in their personal bubbles, sometimes unaware of what’s happening around them. 1. Outside life is shut out. So are you one of “them”?
For me, walking around in my own personal bubble is perfect. 2.What’s even better, wearing earphones seems to give a signal to people which says: “I’m not available for chatting at the moment!”
Suppose you’re at work and about to make an incredible breakthrough, but a colleague suddenly turns up. At this precise moment, the slightest disturbance would break your concentration. 3.Once again, those wires hanging from your ears would be sure to give that “Go away!” signal.
4.It’s probably part of the growing up stage when they just want to ignore their whole family. While their mothers give them lectures about why they should do their homework, they can just turn up the volume(聲音) on their MP3 player, smile, and say “Yes, Mum.” Problem solved.
Pretty soon, not only will we have pretty colored wires hanging from our ears—but also our brains will be directly plugged into some new high-tech instrument. We’ll be in a virtual(虛擬) world, communicating with everyone else, or choosing not to, as we like. In this world, we will all be permanently plugged in. 5.and they are changing our social habits along the way.
In the end, there is a thin line between using technology as a tool for making life better and being a slave to it! It’s so strange—suddenly, I don’t feel like wearing my earphones anymore!
A. Listening to music through earphones is the perfect way to ignore such interruptions.
B. I also have wires hanging from my ears.
C. They walk around in their own spaces, with their personal “digital noise reduction systems.”
D. I don’t have to deal with the noise from the environment.
E. After all, I am listening to my favorite music and would rather not be disturbed.
F. Our instruments are changing quickly.
G. In the home situation, teenagers love these wires.

No one knows why we sleep, but it’s certain that we need to.People who are prevented from sleeping begin to suffer obvious effects after a few days—they think less clearly, and they fall asleep during the working hours;some may have hallucinations(幻覺).
There are no rules about sleep.Generally speaking,grown-ups sleep about 7 and half hours each night and probably more than 60 percent get between seven and eight hours. But perhaps eight percent are quite happy with 5 hours or lees, and four percent or so find that they want ten hours or more.If you feel all right, you’re probably getting enough sleep. The important thing is not to worry how much other people get—their needs may be different.Exercise doesn’t seem to need to increase the sleep time—office workers, for example, sleep for about as long as people doing physically active work.
Children sleep more than grown-ups---perhaps 14 to 18 hours soon after birth, going down to grow-up levels by early teenage.Sleep patterns also tend to be different in the elderly, who may sleep less at night than they did when younger, find sleep getting more broken, and often make it a rule to sleep during the daytime.

Bill Gates recently predicted that online learning will make place-based colleges less significant, and five years from now, students will be able to find the best lectures in the world online. I applaud Mr. Gates. But what’s taking us so long?
As early as 1997, MIT(麻省理工) decided to post videos of all university lectures online. for free, for all people. But today, how many students have you met who mastered advanced mathematics or nuclear physics from an MIT online video? Unfortunately, the answer is not many. The problem is the poor quality of online education websites and the experience they provide to students. Those who go to the MIT website and watch courses online are surely very smart people, but it’s not like playing a video game such as World of Warcraft. Only the most ardent students, those who are highly motivated, will devote themselves to studying these boring online videos.
The real question is why we aren’t spending more to develop better online education platforms. Where is the Avatar of education? Think about this. The market for Hollywood films per year is worth around 30 billion USD. Education in the world is a trillion-dollar-a-year market, hundreds of times bigger than Hollywood movies. Yet the most expensive digital learning system ever built cost well under 100 million dollars.
Bill Gates’ prediction is going to happen. There is no doubt about it. But it will only happen when we create high level educational content and experiences that engage and excite more than has ever been possible in the real world.
1.What has Bill Gates forecast about online learning?
A. It will concentrate on physics lectures
B. It will completely replace real universities
C. It will help to make universities more successful
D. It will play an increasingly important role in education
2.What does the underlined word “ardent” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. Creative B. Enthusiastic
C. Well-behaved D. Experienced
3.According to the author, what is holding back the popularity of online learning?
A. The lack of lectures available online
B. The high cost of access to the websites
C. The low standard of educational websites
D. The competition with online computer games
4.Why does the author mention Hollywood?
A. To show that Hollywood produces many successful movies
B. To prove that education is more profitable than entertainment
C. To argue that movie directors should produce educational content
D. To urge that more money be spent developing educational websites
