讀寫任務

The train was forced to slow from 200 kilometers per hour to 120 km/h, a police officer with the Shenyang railway public security bureau told Xinhua News Agency.

The smoker, a 23-year-old from Dalian, was fined 200 yuan ($30) for violating regulations.

"Smoking is strictly forbidden on high-speed trains, even in the toilets, washing rooms and connecting areas between cars," Xinhua quoted the unidentified officer as saying. "Smoking can trigger fire alarms or even cause a fire on the train."

Violators may be subject to warnings, fines or administrative detention for disturbing order on public transport facilities, he said.

On Saturday, the first day of the Harbin-Dalian high-speed railway's operation, a passenger was found smoking on a train to Harbin, capital of Heilongjiang province, leading to a deceleration of the train, railway police said.

The next day, a passenger in his 20s smoked in a washroom on a train also heading for Harbin, triggering the fire alarm. His actions nearly resulted in an emergency braking, according to Zhao Yang, chief conductor on the train.

It is not uncommon for smokers to cause trouble on bullet trains.

On Jan 11, a bullet train traveling from Shenzhen to Changsha was forced to brake after a smoker activated the emergency braking system. The halt delayed more than 20 trains.

In December 2008, a passenger was given three days detention because his smoking caused a bullet train from Tianjin to Beijing to automatically brake just a minute after it had departed Tianjin Railway Station.

閱讀下面的短文,然后按照要求寫一篇150詞左右的英語短文。
A man came home from work late, tired and irritated, to find his 5-year old son waiting for him at the door.
“Daddy, may I ask you a question?”
“Yeah sure, what is it?” replied the man.
“Daddy, how much do you make an hour?”
“That’s none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?” the man said angrily.
“I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?” pleaded the little boy.
“If you must know, I make $20 an hour.”
“Oh,” the little boy replied, with his head down. Looking up, he said, “Daddy, may I please borrow $10?”
The father was furious, “If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I work hard every day for such childish behavior.”
The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door. The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy’s questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money? After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think: Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $10 and he really didn’t ask for money very often.
The man went to the door of the little boy’s room and opened the door.
“Are you asleep, son?” He asked.
“No daddy, I’m awake,” replied the boy.
“I’ve been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier,” said the man, “It’s been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here’s the $10you asked for.”
The little boy sat straight up, smiling. “Oh, thank you daddy!” He yelled. Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills. The man, seeing that the boy already had money, started to get angry again. The little boy slowly counted out his money, then looked up at his father.
“Why do you want more money if you already have some?” the father grumbled.
“Because I didn’t have enough, but now I do,” the little boy replied. “Daddy, I have $20 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you.”

閱讀下面的短文,然后按照要求寫一篇150詞左右的英語短文。
Increased College Enrollment
In recent years, there is a steady increase in college enrollment. To many high-school students, it's definitely good news, for they would have better chance of receiving higher education.
You don't have to look very far to find out the advantages of the increased college enrollment. For one thing, it lessens the worries of both high school graduates and their parents. Besides, increased college enrollment can contribute to raise the educational level of our nation. What's more, increased college enrollment can provide more students with specialized knowledge, thus serving our development in a positive way.
On the other hand, we can not deny that there are some potential problems about increased college enrollment. To begin with, with the increased number of students, the shortage of teaching staff and facilities becomes clearly seen. Worst of all, increased college enrollment leads to increased competition in the job market.
It's not an easy task to tell whether the tendency should be encouraged. As to me, it's laudable to grant more students higher education. But a college degree is by no means a guarantee for a better job or future. To cast a promising career, we need a lot more abilities which we can not learn from college.

閱讀下面短文,然后按照要求寫一篇150詞左右的英語短文。

It seemed no one cared about Steve, a twelve-year-old boy with alcoholic(酗酒) parents. In spite of his reading skills, he had been failing exams since first grade. Steve went unnoticed until Miss White.

Miss White was a smiling, young, beautiful redhead, and Steve was in love! For the first time in his young life, he couldn’t take his eyes off his teacher; yet, still he failed. He never did his homework, and he was always in trouble with Miss White. His heart would break under her sharp words, and when he was punished for failing to turn in his homework, he felt just miserable! Still, he did not study.

Until one day, Miss White talked to him, “Steve! Please! I care about you!”

Suddenly, Steve understood! Someone cared about him!

From that moment nothing was the same for Steve. Life at home remained the same, but life still changed. He discovered that not only could he learn, but he was good at it!

After high-school Steve joined the Navy, and he had a successful military career. During that time, he met the love of his life, he raised a family, and he graduated from a college. Later he became a professor in a nearby college

You see, it’s simple, really. A change took place within the heart of one boy, all because of one teacher, who cared.

讀寫任務 (共25分)

閱讀下面的短文,然后按照要求寫一篇150詞左右的英語短文。

As we all know, life is full of dreams and having a good dream is of great importance in our daily life. Without a good dream, people can’t make progress; without a good dream, countries can’t develop; without a good dream, the world can’t become so beautiful! And I hold the strong belief that everyone, whether he is old or young, poor or rich, junior or senior, does have a good dream! After all, dreaming is certainly a positive part of our life, and wishing for good things, however, costs nothing!

What’s more, it is important to fly our dreams, especially for those who are Senior 3 students. It is high time for them to fly their dreams. If they can’t let out  dreams fly, the dream would just be a dream, not reality!

Therefore, it is no wonder that so many people have a dream since their childhood. With a nice dream, China succeeded to host the 29th Olympic Games in 2008; with a nice dream, Hongkong returned to the motherland peacefully in 1997; with a nice dream, Yuan Longping rids the world of hunger; with a nice dream, Michael Jordon becomes the most popular basketball star; with a nice dream I can stand on this stage to compete in the final English speech contest. And with an aim of achieving success, I must do the best!

So my good friends, if you want to realize your dream, please do not be afraid in face of difficulties or give up in face of failure nor lose your dream in face of pains. You must keep going forward bravely! Just fly your dream highly above the sky!

第二節(jié) 讀寫任務 (共1小題,滿分25分)

    閱讀下面的一封信,然后按照要求用英語寫一篇150詞左右的回信。

Dear Abby,

Last month my son was told that he no longer has to attend weekend classes at his school.  Since then he spends his weekends going out with his friends to play sports or watch movies.  When he is at home all he seems to do is surf the Internet or play silly computer games. I really think he is just wasting his time having fun when he should be studying. I sometimes ask him if he has homework or extra study to do, but he always says that he has already completed it all. This change makes me very worried. I feel that this free time is encouraging him to be lazy. He isn’t studying long enough and this will reduce his chances of getting into university. I also think it will cause problems when he begins to work because he will not be able to concentrate well and will think more of having fun than his job. I have considered going to the school principal and asking him to change their decision but my son says if I do so his classmates will laugh at him. I don’t want to embarrass my child but I don’t want him to fall behind either.

Please help.

Concerned Mum
