Everybody gets angry, but out-of-control anger isn,t good for you or those around you. So here are five simple strategies to help you learn how to manage your anger:

         • Relax. Breathe deeply, from your stomach. 36 Repeat it to yourself and visualize a relaxing time and experience.

         • Change the way you think. When youre angry, your thinking can get exaggerated(夸大的). 37 For instance, instead of telling yourself, “Oh,it's terrible! Everything's ruined,”tell yourself, “It's understandable that I'm upset about it,but it's not the end of the world."

         • 38 Statements like “This never works." or

“You’ re always forgetting things." will make you feel your anger is justified and there,s no way to solve the problem. They might upset people who might be willing to work with you on a solution.

         • Have a better communication. Angry people tend to jump to conclusions. If you are in a heated discussion, slow down. 39 And take your time before answering. Instead of saying the first thing that comes into your head, think carefully about what you want to say.

         • Use humor. Psychologists say that highly angry people tend to think ^things ought to go my way!” “Silly humor” can help you get a more balanced perspective. So,when you feel that anger coming the next time, picture yourself as a king or queen, walking around, admired by everybody, and getting your own way in every situation. The more detail you can get into your imaginary scenes, the more likely it is to put a smile on your face. 40

   A. Be carefUl with words like “never” or “always”.

   B. Listen carefully to what the other person is saying.

   C. Try replacing these thoughts with more reasonable ones.

   D. Avoid using these strategies when you’ re in a tense situation.

   E. Then slowly repeat a calm word or phrase such as “take it easy”.

   F. Try changing the topics so your talks won,t turn into arguments.

   G. That will help you realize that the things you,re angry about are really not very important.

38. A.由下文的 Statements ... might upset people可知,本段作者建議人們謹(jǐn)慎使用帶有never或always的話語。

39. B.由小標(biāo)題 Have a better commu- nication和文中的slow down以及下文 的 take your time before answering 可知,作者建議人們在激烈的討論中,不要輕易下結(jié)論,認(rèn)真傾聽,良好溝通,從而避免怒氣的產(chǎn)生,故選B項。

40.G。本段作者建議使用幽默化解怒氣。由本段的 The more detail ... the more;likely it is to put a smile on your face 可知,幽默可以讓人意識到令人生氣的事其實并沒有那么重要,故選G項。

                                  A

On Tuesday, scientists announced that they have discovered the bones of four settlers in. Jamestown,Virginia, dating as far back as 1608. Jamestown was the first permanent English settlement in what became the United States. The bones were unearthed under the floor of a Jamestown church which was discovered in 2010 and is considered as America,s first Protestant church(新教教會).

The Jamestown Rediscovery Foundation at Historic Jamestowne and the Smithsonian's Museum of Natural History announced that the settlers held high leadership positions. The men,Rev.Robert Hunt,Capt. Gabriel Archer,Sir Ferdinando Wainman, and Capt. William West, all played a role in the Jamestown settlement. After being lost to history for more than 400 years, the discovery of their remains provides new clues about their life and the importance of religion in the 1600s.

“This is a very important discovery,” Jamestown Rediscovery Foundation President James Horn said in a statement. “These men were among the first founders of English America."

About 100 people settled along the James River in what would become the first English settlement m 1607. During that time, settlers in Jamestown were faced with famine and disease The colony was nearly wiped out due to conflict with Native Amencans in the area and with other English settlers.

"They lived and died at a hard time in the history of the settlement — when Jamestown almost ended in  failure," Horn said. The bones of these men help fill in the stories of their lives ”

The Smithsonian and the Rediscovery Foundation fouund the remains in November of 2013. Scientists used 3-D technology to locate the exact gravesites of the men. The team wanted to identify its findings before announcing the discovery. They identified the men using historical records and studied the chemicals of the bones to learn what the men ate and where they came from.

Findings from the burials will go on display within weeks at Historic Jamestowne^ The site also plans to honor the men and will keep their bones in a safe place for foture study.

閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個選項(A、B、C和D) 中,選出最佳選項。

                                   A

How young com辦zrs (美洲獅) leam to hunt is one of the things cougar researchers like Mark Elbroch are working hard to figure out. “We know nothing about their secret lives' Elbroch says. He and his team track cougars deep in the Wyoming wilderness.

An adult called F51 was one of the cougars they kept (標(biāo)簽) on —they followed her using the satellite signal from her electronic collar. One fall when Elbroch discovered that F51 had given birth to four kittens — three females and a male —he put expandable tracking collars on them too,so he could follow them as they grew.

About one week after they were bom, their eyes opened. Their fur was thick enough to blanket them from the oncoming cold winter. Their brown and black spots could mix with the forest, helping to keep them safe from (食肉動物) .

By the time they were five weeks old the four kittens were restless to leave their home. They'd  still be nursed for another month, but they were ready to go out of their hideaway with their mother. They began to learn their way around Mom's territory(領(lǐng)地). As they grew older and stronger, they learned how to search for food by following their mother, watching her select an animal to approach, and observing how she caught the animal.

While they were only a few weeks old,Mom would tell her kittens to hide when she hunted. Sometimes she has to travel a couple of miles to find'meal. “The minute she makes the kill, she hides it and heads back for the kittens, and they follow her to the kill site,” Elbroch says.

But the kittens learned that sometimes meal plans change quickly. In February and March, wolves chased F51 and her kittens away from six different kills. During the cold winter, one kitten disappeared” probably a victim of wolves, and another didnt survive the bitterly cold weather.

Luckily F51 was able to provide plenty of food for her two remaining kittens. She shares her territory with another female, and they are friendly with each other. F5Ts kittens have learned that cooperation is a choice. “We have seen females get together and share food”’Elbroch says. “F51 spent three or four months sharing almost every kill with an unrelated female and her kittens."
