【題目】

Who Can Apply

*First-year fall applicants

*Transfer students through the transfer admission process

How to Apply

For each class, we bring together a varied mix of high-achieving, intellectually gifted students from diverse backgrounds to create an exceptional learning community.

We care about what students have accomplished in and out of the classroom. The process is highly selective. In recent years, we’ve offered admission to less than 7 percent of applicants.

As you prepare your application, help us to appreciate your talents, academic accomplishments and personal achievements. We’ll ask for your transcript (成績單) and recommendations, and we will want to know more than just the statistics in your file. Tell us your story. Show us what’s special about you. Tell us how you would seize the academic and nonacademic opportunities at Princeton and contribute to the Princeton community. Above all, please write in a style that reflects your own voice.

Princeton accepts the Coalition Application and Common Application. Princeton treats them all equally. To apply, you will need to submit online either the Coalition Application or the Common Application, plus the Princeton Supplement.

When to Apply

You have two choices for applying to Princeton for first-year admission—single-choice early action or regular decision. Before you begin preparing your application, we strongly encourage you to review our standardized testing policy, which includes detailed information regarding our standardized testing requirements.

*Single-choice Early Action, also known as restrictive early action (If you have thoroughly researched your college options and have decided that Princeton is your first choice)

Nov. 1 Application Due

Nov. 9 Princeton Financial Aid Application Due

*Regular Decision

Jan. 1 Application Due

Feb. 1 Princeton Financial Aid Application Due

1What should be included in the application to Princeton University?

A.Talents that you have great appreciation for.

B.Stories that reflect what people think of you.

C.Statistics that show your academic accomplishments.

D.Contributions that you have made to the Princeton community.

D.applicants should take Princeton as their single choice

【解析】

這是一篇應(yīng)用文,是有關(guān)普林斯頓大學入學申請須知的網(wǎng)頁內(nèi)容顯示。

1

細節(jié)理解題。在How to Apply項目的第三段中,由“Well ask for your transcript (成績單) and recommendations, and we will want to know more than just the statistics in your file.”

從How to Apply項目的第二段的最后一句“In recent years, we’ve offered admission to less than 7 percent of applicants.”

Occupational Licenses with the Biggest Bang for Buck

Some 1.8 million American were laid off or discharged from their jobs each month on average in 2019, according to data from the U. S. Bureau of Labor statistics. People who lose their jobs often confront a difficult choice: should they take a new job that pays less, or should they make a costly investment in gaining new skills so that they can compete for another similar job or an even better one?

If they do decide on retraining ,which programs and occupational licenses are worth their while? In general, the highest-paying jobs tend to have the most difficult education/ training and experience requirements. But that is not always the case. The following are five occupational licenses with the biggest bang for your buck.

Drone Pilots: If you want to become a drone pilot, all you need to do is be above 16 years old, pass the Federal Aviation Administration's Remote Pilot Certificate exam (which requires about 15 to 20 hours of studying), and pay a $ 150 licensing fee. Pay for drone pilots averages $ 56,426 per year, and jobs are growing rapidly across a range of industries. For example, companies like UPS are making substantial investments in drone delivery and will need to hire thousands of drone pilots in the coming years.

Home Inspectors: If you need a job that makes about $ 60K per year, you might want to consider becoming a Home Inspector. Both Home Inspectors and HVAC Contractors earn about $ 61K per year, on average, but getting a state HVAC Contractor license typically requires about 4,000 hours of training and experience (those systems are becoming even more complex), whereas a Home Inspector license only requires 360 hours of training and experience, and much of the training can be gained free of charge on the job.

Massage Therapists: On average, Manicurists/Pedicurists are required to complete more hours of training than Massage Therapists (700 hours versus 500 hours), but Massage Therapists earn almost twice as much, on average ($54,639 versus $ 32,509).

Radiologic Technologists: Licensing requirements for cosmetologists(美容師)have become so onerous that candidates now need 2,700 hours of training and experience on average. That's not much less than the requirement for becoming a Radiologic or MRI Technologist (3,300 hours), a job which is growing considerably faster than average, is more recession - proof, and pays twice as much ($ 56,162 versus $ 28,608).

Dental Hygienists: Among jobs that require a two-year associate's degree granted by a college or university, some pay substantially more than others. The average state licensing fee for becoming a Dental Hygienist is a hefty $ 1,600, but the pay bump you'll receive will likely make up for it ten times over in the first year.

1The underlined expression "the biggest bang for your buck" in Paragraph 2 probably means ________.

A.the job loss for your hesitation to invest

B.a good income resulting from your skills

C.a good return for the money you have spent

D.the great efforts you'd make to change your life.

2Which of the following statements is true according to the passage?

A.Among the drone operators, those who work for delivery services can earn the most.

B.Compared to a home inspector, being an HVAC Contractor is more cost-effective.

C.As an MRI technologist, you'd be less likely to be jobless during an economic crisis.

D.Higher education isn't a compulsory requirement if you want to be a dental hygienist.

3Which of the following matching for the chart is correct according to the passage?

A. Radiologic Technologist; Cosmetologist; General Contractor

B. Drone Pilot; General Contractor; Dental Hygienists

C. Message Therapist; Radiologic Technologist; Cosmetologist

D. Drone Piolt; Cosmetologist; Radiologic Technologist

Iceland is becoming a very popular place to visit all year round and we are not surprised. The country with its spectacular, unspoiled, fragile and raw nature, hot springs, icebergs and waterfalls is a feast for the eyes both during summer and winter. Our history and culture is young compared to most other countries. We speak our own language, Icelandic, which due to the country’s isolation in the past, has been very well preserved.

Driving in Iceland can be a bit different from many other countries. We do have a number of gravel roads, single lane bridges, narrow roads, rough mountain roads with unbridged rivers, animal stock near or on the road and weather conditions can change quickly. Therefore driving in Iceland needs your full care during your stay because we want you back safe and happy.

We kindly ask you to help us improve our quality by giving us feedback on how we are doing and what we can do better. Not less importantly, we ask you to help us preserve the Icelandic nature which can be very fragile. Off-road driving is strictly forbidden and please do not litter.

In case of trouble, accident or breakdown please don’t hesitate to contact our emergency phone numbers 840-6010 for south and west Iceland, or 840-6000 for north and east Iceland or one of our many locations around the country and we will do our very best to help you to safely continue your journey.
