____ volcanoes now for many years, I am still amazed at their beauty as well as their potential to cause great damage.
A.Studied | B.To study | C.Having studied | D.Studying |
C
解析試題分析:句意:已經(jīng)研究火山爆發(fā)這多年了,我仍然驚奇它們的美麗和它們引起大的威力的潛力。因?yàn)檎麄句子已經(jīng)有謂語動詞,所以空格處應(yīng)該用非謂語動詞,因?yàn)閒or many years說明study的動作先于謂語動詞的動作發(fā)生,故用完成時(shí),故選C。
When I got off the bus, I found my pocket _________ and the money gone.
A. picked B. stolen C. missing D. lost
解析:A。句意:考查過去分詞作賓語補(bǔ)足語的用法,pick one’s pocket表示“偷了某人的錢包”。賓語和賓語補(bǔ)足語之間形成被動關(guān)系。故選A項(xiàng)。

A young man named Charles Lyell had different ideas .He wrote a book about them called Principles of Geology .The earth ,according to Lyell ,was not only thousands of years old ,it was millions of years old .As to(關(guān)于)the common belief that changes in the earth's surface happen suddenly because of a single earthquake or flood ,he said that this might happen once in a while ,but usually these changes took place very slowly .He believed that the surface of the earth had been changing from the beginning of time .The changes ,he said ,were caused by the long-term action of the winds and seas ,and by forces such as volcanoes breaking out under the earth's surface .Once in a great while he thought ,a mountain might appear for the first time after an earthquake .But usually mountains would rise slowly and steadily.? Professor Henslow was interested in Lyell's ideas ,but he did not actually believe them .Charles Darwin could not make up his mind about them .But they set him thinking along lines which would later change the beliefs of thoughtful people all over the world.?
At Cambridge ,Charles Darwin studied just enough to pass the examination ,and received his college degree in 1831.During this time ,he had become more and more interested in geology .At the end of the school year ,he went to North Wales with one of his teachers to examine the rock formations(構(gòu)成) and to search for fossils(化石).Fossils are the remains of ancient living things .They are usually found fixed in rocks in the earth's crust(地殼).Fossils may be of animals ,such as fish ,insects ,birds ,or humans .They may be of plants from tiny leaves to huge trees.? When a living creature dies ,it usually decays(腐爛)or is eaten by animals .However ,if it sinks into a riverbed or is quickly covered by the blowing sands of a desert storm ,the bones are kept up in the earth. Over many years the soft inner parts of a bone disappear ,leaving the inside hollow. Water containing mineral enters into the hollow. Slowly the mineral hardens and makes the bone hard and heavy, like stone.

A.from the beginning of time
B.past some experiences of big flood?
C.over a very long period of years
D.because of several big earthquakes
2.Charles Lyell believed the fact that a mountain is formed_______.?
A.more by seas than by volcanoes

Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system. It is also one of the most interesting. It was named after Jupiter, the most important of the Roman gods, and nicknamed the “King of Planets.” It is the fifth planet from the sun and the fourth brightest object in the sky. Before the invention of the telescope, Jupiter was thought to be a bright star.
In 1610, the famous astronomer Galileo realised that Jupiter was actually a planet. He also noticed that it had four large moons. These are known as the Galilean moons. The biggest is Ganymede, and it is larger than the planets Pluto and Mercury. Next in size is Callisto, which is the farthest away from Jupiter. It is the closest to the planet, and has a lot of active volcanoes. The smallest of the Galilean moons is Europa. Europa is covered in ice, and scientists believe there may be an ocean underneath.
Galileo's discovery that Jupiter was not a star but a planet was very important. Before this time, people believed the Earth to be the centre of the universe. They thought that the sun, stars, and other planets all revolved around the Earth. However, Galileo proved that the sun was at the centre of the universe!
(A) Jupiter is farther out in the solar system than Earth, so it takes longer to revolve around the sun. (B) However, a day on Jupiter is much shorter, only 9.8 Earth hours. (C) This is because it spins(旋轉(zhuǎn)) a lot faster than the Earth does. (D)
Another of Jupiter's interesting features(特性) is its “Great Red Spot.” On the surface of the planet is a large red spot. The spot is actually a huge storm like a hurricane, but bigger. It covers an area twice as big as the Earth and has been going on for at least 400 years!
62. What is the passage mainly about?
A. Features of the planet Jupiter.
B. Differences between Jupiter and other planets.
C. Galileo's accomplishments in astronomy(天文).
D. How Jupiter moves in the solar system.
63. According to Paragraph 3, why is Galileo's discovery important?
A. Because Jupiter was thought to be smaller than Earth.
B. Because people knew that Earth is not the only planet.
C. Because it meant that the planet goes around the Earth.
D. Because it proved that Earth is not the centre of the universe.
64. The underlined word “revolved” in the third paragraph is closest in meaning to .
A. approached B. stopped C. sped up D. circled
65. Where would the following sentence best fit into Paragraph 4, (A), (B), (C) or (D)?
This means that one year on Jupiter is as long as 11.6 Earth years.

The Republic of Vanuatu is an island nation located in the South Pacific Ocean. It was one of the poorest nations in the region. Within the last five years, however, it has become a hot spot for adventure travelers. In 2006 it was voted the happiest place on Earth. The reason is not that Vanuatu are the richest but that Vanuatu has white-sand islands, clear waters, the world’s most accessible live volcano, great diving and food that grows faster than it can be picked.
With a population of about 221,000, Vanuatu has 113 languages, which is a result of 3,000 years of immigration from many Pacific countries. There are three official languages: English, French, and Bislama. Bislama developed from South Pacific English, a simplified language that traders and other foreigners used it to communicate with speakers of the many local languages.
Most of the islands are mountainous and of volcanic origin. There are several active volcanoes in Vanuatu, including Yasur on the island of Tanna, one of the world’s most accessible volcanoes. If you’ve ever fancied getting close to a volcano, here’s your chance.
