閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個(gè)選項(xiàng)A、B、C和D中,選出最佳選項(xiàng)。

A news release is a tool of communication, through which information is passed to even the farthest end of the world. It keeps us well informed of the happenings of the world which would otherwise remain unknown.

When writing a news release, keep in mind that the media receive hundreds of releases every day.Try to follow these guidelines:Keep it short and professional.Come up with a catchy headline that will grasp someone's attention.Sometimes the title will take more time to come up with than writing the release. That's okay-the headline could be critical for getting an event covered!

Cover the 5 W's in your first paragraph. Those are who you are; what you are doing;where, when you are doing;why you are doing it,which help us understand the details about the event.Besides, any opinions in the news release should be put in quotations from your designated spokesperson.Include things that the media finds newsworthy, which is the most essential.

Make the time on your news release at least half an hour later than the time you have told activists to show up at an event. This will ensure that activists are prepared and in place by the time the media arrive.

Choose a spokesperson for the event who can be quoted in the release and will be available for calls at that number the day before the event.

Have someone proof the release for spelling, grammar and content(determine whether what you are trying to relay is clear and right).Sometimes the person who writes the release may not notice mistakes that a fresh pair of eyes will catch.

Accuracy is the last but not least important in terms of your content and the location and time that you tell the media. If you do make a mistake,it is critical that you call and notify the media of the correction.

1.What's the main purpose of the passage?

A.To tell us the importance of the news release.

Just 50 years ago Manx seemed to be on the point of disappearing. "If you spoke Manx in a pub on the island in the 1960s, it was considered provocative(挑釁的) and you were likely to find yourself in a fight," recalls Brian Stowell, a 76-year-old islander who has written a Manx-language novel, The Vampire Murders, and presents a radio show on Manx Radio spreading the language every Sunday.

The language itself is similar to the Gaelic tongues spoken in the island's neighbours, Ireland and Scotland. A century ago, "Moghrey mie" would have been commonly heard instead of good morning on the island.

"In the 1860s there were thousands of Manx people who couldn't speak English," says Stowell. "But only a century later it was considered to be so backwards to speak the language that there were stories of Manx speakers getting stones thrown at them in the towns. "I learnt it myself from one of the last surviving native speakers back in the 1950s."

Recession(經(jīng)濟(jì)衰退 ) in the mid 19th Century forced many Manx residents to leave the island to seek work in England. And parents were not willing to pass the language down through the generations, with many believing that to have Manx as a first language would affect job opportunities overseas.

There was a fall in the language. By the early 1960s there were perhaps as few as 200 who spoke the tongue. The last native speaker, Ned Maddrell, died in 1974. Unesco(聯(lián)合國(guó)教科文組織) pronounced the language died out in the 1990s.

Now there is even a Manx language primary school in which all subjects are taught in the language, with more than 60 pupils attending. Manx is also taught in other schools across the island.

1.What does “Moghrey mie” mean according to the passage?

A. All the best. B. Congratulations.

C. Never mind. D. Good morning.

2.Many Manx people went to England to ________.

A. learn Manx B. teach English

C. look for jobs D. attend college

3.What is the passage mainly about?

A. The Manx language. B. The life of Manx people

C. The Manx island. D. The Manx language school

I am an e?mail user. When I first started to use the e?mail system, I used to read all my e?mail. I didn’t have much mail. I gave my friends my e?mail address. Soon I had more mail than I wanted. Some of the mail was junk mail. I was worried. I didn’t want my mail to control me.

I’ve tried some methods to help me get control of my mail. First, I check my mail at the same time every day. Also I try to allow myself only 15~20 minutes every day to process my e?mail. This doesn’t always work, but I try. Sometimes I save the messages. Sometimes I just read them, maybe answer a few, and then delete(刪除) them.

Sometimes I’m not at all interested in a message, so I don’t even open it. I delete it right away. This is very much the way I go through the mail that the postal service delivers to my home.

These methods are very simple. I have some friends who are very clever with computers. From time to time, they teach me new tricks for managing my e?mail. I’m still amazed at what e?mail can do for me! I’m still worried, however, about having too much to read.

1.The writer used to read all his e?mail because ______.

A. he was forced to do that

B. he had nothing else to do

A. messages. B. friends.

C. computers. D. methods.

根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,從短文后的選項(xiàng)中選出能填入空白處的最佳選項(xiàng)。選項(xiàng)中有兩項(xiàng)為多余選項(xiàng)。

The Internet has opened up a whole new online world for us to meet, chat and go where we’ve never been before.

But just as in face to face communication, there are some rules of behavior that should be followed when on line. 1. Imagine how you’d feel if you were in the other person’s shoes.

For anything you’re about to send: ask yourself, “Would I say this to the person’s face?” if the answer is no, rewrite and reread. 2.

If someone in the chat room is rude to you, your instinct (本能) is to fire back in the same manner. But try not to do so. 3.If it was caused by a disagreement with another member, try to fix the situation by politely discussing it. Remember to respect the beliefs and opinions of others in the chat room.

4. Offer advice when asked by newcomers, as they may not be sure what to do or how to communicate. When someone makes a mistake, whether it’s a stupid question or an unnecessarily long answer, be kind about it. If it’s a small mistake, you may not need to say anything. Even if you feel strongly about it, think twice before saying anything. Having good manners yourself doesn’t give you license to correct everyone else. 5.At the same time, if you find you are wrong, be sure to correct yourself and apologize to those that you have offended.

It is not polite to ask others personal questions such as their age, sex and marital status. Unless you know the person very well, and you are both comfortable with sharing personal information, don’t ask such questions.

A. It’s natural that there some people who speak rudely or make mistakes online.

B. Repeat the process till you feel sure that you’d feel comfortable saying the words to the person’s face.

C. Everyone was new to the network once.

D. The basic rule is simple: treat others in the same way you would want to be treated.

E. When you send short messages to a person online, you must say something beautiful to hear.

F. You should either ignore the person, or use your chat software to block their messages.

G. If you do decide to tell someone about a mistake, point it out politely.

閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個(gè)選項(xiàng)(A、B、C和D)中,選出最佳選項(xiàng)。

No one would much like the idea of eating 61 pounds of tomatoes a day. But if their goodness was put into an easy?to?swallow pill that you were told might prevent strokes(中風(fēng)) and heart attacks you would probably be putting in an order tomorrow.

Researchers believe they may have come up with just that after trials. The daily pill contains a chemical called lycopene which makes tomatoes red and is known to break down fat in the vessels(血管).A Cambridge University study found taking the pills improved blood flow and the lining of vessels in patients with pre?existing heart conditions. It also increased the flexibility(靈活性) of their vessels by 50 percent. The scientists believe it could limit the damage caused by heart disease—responsible for 180,000 deaths a year—and help cut the 49,000 deaths a year from strokes. They also hope it could benefit those with arthritis(關(guān)節(jié)炎), diabetes(糖尿病) and even slow the progress of cancer.

Each pill is equal to eating around 61 pounds of ripe tomatoes. Studies have shown eating a Mediterranean?style diet rich in tomatoes, fish, vegetables, nuts and olive oil can significantly reduce cholesterol(膽固醇) and help prevent cardiovascular disease.

Preliminary results from a two?month trial, in which the pill was given to 36 heart disease patients and 36 healthy volunteers with an average age of 67, were presented at a meeting of the American Heart Association. It was shown to improve the function of the endothelium—the layer of cells lining blood vessels. It also improved their sensitivity to nitric oxide, the gas which causes the enlargement of the vessels in response to exercise.

Ian Wilkinson, head of Cambridge University's clinical trials unit, said,“These results are potentially very significant and it meets the goal, but we need more trials to see if they translate into fewer heart attacks and strokes.”

Further studies are planned, with researchers hoping it could offer a choice for heart disease sufferers who can not take the cholesterol?lowing drugs.

Mike Knapton, head of the British Heart Foundation, said, “Although this showed lycopene improved blood flow in people with heart disease, that's a long way from demonstrating that taking it could improve outcomes for people with heart disease. The best way to get the benefits of a good diet is to eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.”

1.What can we infer from Paragraph 1?

A.We can eat too much tomato food.

B.Tomatoes are helpful to strokes and heart attacks.

C.Tomatoes will lose healthy elements if they are put into pills.

D.We had better not eat tomatoes.

2.We can learn from the passage that the pills ________.

A.a(chǎn)re at the experiment stage

B.can cure all the disease

C.a(chǎn)re widely used among patients

D.cost patients so little money

3.Who were the volunteers by taking part in the trial?

A.Children. B.Youth.

C.Working people. D.Old healthy people.

4.What was Ian Wilkinson's opinion on the trial?

A.Disappointing. B.Surprising.

C.Satisfactory. D.Terrible.
