For four centuries Germany has enjoyed a tradition of governmental support of the arts. Before the founding of the German Empire in 1871, many small kingdoms supported the arts. They established theatres, museums and libraries, and their leaders acted as the sponsors to poets, writers, painters and performers. The organizations were thus founded and the convention of generous public support has continued uninterrupted to the present.

Germany’s cultural life surprised foreigners. In the Federal Republic a few hundred theatres are financed by the federal government, the states and the cities, in addition to the many privately financed theatres. Unlike the United States, Britain and France, in which theatre is more often than not centered in one city, no one city in Germany dominates over the others. Also, productions in Vienna and in Zurich are significant to the artistic life of the Federal Republic, and artists and resources move easily and freely among the theatrical and operatic companies within the German-speaking regions. Only in Vienna, the capital in which the arts arouse（引起）far greater passions than do politics, does theatre have a broader audience base than in Germany. Audiences in Germany are not limited to the most cultured class or very important people but are drawn from all ranks of society. Season tickets, group arrangements, group tickets bought by business firms and theatre clubs make up the major funds of such production companies as the People’s Independent Theatre, dating from 1890 in Berlin. Going to the theatre or opera in Germany is about as affordable and as unremarkable as attending the cinema elsewhere.

At first, the earth’s surface layer (層 ) was made up of huge blocks of hard, solid rocks.There slowly, the rocks broke up into smaller and smaller pieces. The moving water of streams and rivers also help to break up rocks. As the water moves along, it carries with it small pieces of rock. These rub the larger ones, Thus, the larger rocks are worn down to smaller pieces.
The heat of the sun also help to breaking up rocks. When the sun shines, the rocks become very hot. If these rocks are suddenly cooled, they may crack. Ice also plays a part in making soil.  Water in the cracks can turn into ice in cold weather. As this happens, it becomes bigger and cracks become wider, and finally break into smaller pieces.

Self-employed private physicians who charge a fee for each patient visit are the foundation of medical practice in the United States. Many years ago my student asked me the question, "Mrs. Kindred, why do you teach?" Without taking time to reflect, I answered, "Because someday I might say something that might make a difference in someone's life." Teaching is a way to make a difference. If you throw a stone in a pond the ripples go on and on until they reach the shore. You can't have ripples without a "stone." Good teachers throw stones that make a positive difference, and that's what I try to do.

I genuinely love teenagers. I want to share with others what I know and what I have learned through the years. Life is full of ups and downs, and if I can help students avoid some potholes on the road of life, I want to do so. If they'll allow me to celebrate their victories with them, I want to do too.

Teaching isn't for everyone, but I know I made the right career choice.

US bees operation keeping groups have been attacked seriously by so called Colony Collapse Disorder (蜂群衰竭失調(diào))．Almost 1/2 of their worker bees have vanished during the past season．This disorder has also been reported in Israel, Europe and South America．Bees fly away from the hive and never return．Sometimes they are found dead; other times they are never found．Many crops and trees depend on pollination--- by bees to help them grow． 

A new report says a virus may be at least partly responsible for the disorder in honey bee colonies in the United States．This virus is called Israeli acute paralysis virus．It was first found in Israel in 2004．Lan Lipkin at Columbia University in New York and a team reported the new findings in Science Magazine．Doctor Lipkin says the virus may not be the only cause．He says it may work with other causes to produce the collapse disorder．

The team found the virus in colonies with the help of a map of honey bee genes that was published last year．They examined thirty colonies affected by the disorder．They found evidence of the virus in twenty-five of them, and in one healthy colony．The next step is further testing of healthy hives．

The researchers suggested that the United States may have imported the disorder in bees from Australia．They say the bees may carry the virus but not be affected．

The idea is that unlike many American bees, the ability of Australian bees to fight disease has not been hurt by the varroasis mite．This insect attacks honey bees, which could make the disorder more likely to affect a hive．Australian bee producers object to these suspicions．

And some researchers suspect that bee production in the United States is down mainly because of the weather．Honey bees gather nectar from flowers and trees．The sweet liquid gives them food and material to make honey．But cold weather this spring in the Midwest reduced the flow of nectar in many flowers．Many bees may have starved．Dry weather in areas of the country could also be playing apart．

Wayne Esaias is a NASA space agency scientist who keeps bees in his free time．He lives in central Maryland, where he has found that flowers are blooming a month earlier than they did in 1970, which may be partly responsible for the disorder. Wayne Esaias is organizing a group of beekeepers to document nectar flow around the country.
