[1] In the United States, train transportation is unpopular compared with cars and airplanes. Most people like traveling by car or by air. Officials of the United States Department of Transportation made a study in 2001. The study is about how many miles Americans traveled by different means of transportation. They only studied trips longer than 50 miles. The study showed that fifty-six percent of all miles were traveled in personal vehicle. Forty-one percent were traveled in an airplane. Two percent were traveled in a bus. And less than one percent of miles were traveled in a train. Amtrak is the national provider of train transportation in the United States. In the past ten years, the number of its passengers has increased by eighteen percent. Although the number of passengers has increased, it is still very small now. In countries such as France, Germany, or Japan, more people use trains. There are several reasons why many people ________________________.
[2] Firstly, Americans love to drive their own cars. On highways, cars can travel as fast as trains. These highways connect all major cities in America.Secondly, many travelers like to be independent. When they use their own cars they can decide when to travel. Thirdly, many buses travel between major cities. Bus travel is less costly than train travel. In a huge country like the United States, cities are far away from each other. Save the Children, the international support group, has issued a new study on the condition of mothers around the world. The study by Save the Children is part of a new campaign aimed at improving the health and education of mothers around the world. The group also hopes to pressure lawmakers to increase international aid for women's programs.
The report rates 96 countries on issues important to mothers. They include health care and family planning services, the health of their children, education and political involvement.
The report confirms what Save the Children has been saying for more than 70 years. The lives of children around the world will not improve unless the lives of their mothers improve. There is a direct link between the health of children and the quality of health care, family planning services and education offered to mothers. The ten countries rated worst in the study have problems with childbirth. Less than one-third of the births in those countries are attended by trained health care professionals. Also, only three percent of the women use a system to prevent pregnancies. In these countries, one in twelve women die during childbirth. But, the death rate for women during childbirth is only one in six thousand.
Save the Children says more educational programs for mothers and girls will improve the ability of women to raise healthy babies. The group says millions of lives could be saved if more money were invested in training programs. Family planning alone could prevent one- fourth of all deaths among new-born babies and their mothers. It would teach women to wait two or more years between births.

5.Translate the underlined sentence in Paragraph 3 into Chinese.
[1] Medical research is leading American education officials to consider having high school classes start later in the morning. The research says that teenagers are more awake later at night than adults are. When staying up late at night, the teenagers have problems learning early in the morning.
[2]Researchers in the state of Rhode Island measured the amount of the hormone(荷爾蒙) melatonin(降黑素) in people's mouths at different times of the day. Melatonin causes people to feel sleepy.
[3]They found that melatonin levels rise later at night in teenagers than they do in children and adults. It remains at higher levels in teenagers later in the morning. They said this shows that teenagers have difficulty learning early in the morning. Yet most school systems in the United States begin high school classes at about seven o'clock.
[4]A few school districts have made some changes. In 1996, school officials in Edina, Minnesota, changed the start of classes from seven thirty to eight thirty. Two years later, the nearby city of Minneapolis did the same. Teachers there reported that students were no longer sleepy in class and were happier. Staying in school later in the day did not seem to be a problem for students who had jobs after school either.
[5]Health experts say that teenagers need between eight and nine hours of sleep a night. Students _________ are likely to be late for school, fail to do their homework, fall asleep in class and have trouble taking part in class discussions.
[6]Some people, however, don't support a later start time because they say that it would limit the time for practicing sports after school. However, the Minnesota schools found that this did not hurt school sports competitions.
[7]More American school districts are discussing the possibility of changing high school start times. Researchers and teenagers say that they cannot make the change quickly enough.
