Like poorly managed stress, anger that isn’t handled in a healthy way can be not only uncomfortable, but even damaging to one’s health and personal life. Consider the following research on anger:
One study from the University of Washington School of Nursing studied1problems in husbands and wives. Researchers cited(引用) previous evidence that anger problems and depressive symptoms have been linked to all major2of death, but found that wives specifically found a greater association between anger and3of depression,4men tended to instead experience an5between anger and health problems.
According to a study from Ohio State University, those who had less control over their anger6to heal more slowly from wounds. Researchers gave blisters(起皰膏) to 98 participants and found that, after 8 days, those who had less control over their anger also tended to be7healers.8, those participants also tended to have more cortisol (a stress hormone) in their system during the blistering procedure,9that they may be more stressed by difficult situations as well.
10study from Harvard School of Public Health studied hostility(敵對行為) in men and found that those with11rates of hostility not only had poorer pulmonary functioning (breathing problems), but experienced higher rates of decline as they aged.
Research with children and12shows that anger13is important for the younger set as well. Findings showed that youth who cope inappropriately with their anger are at greater14for problem-ridden(受…支配的) interpersonal relationships. Their15is also at risk; those who cope poorly with anger tend to have more negative16when it comes to both mental and general health. This highlights the fact that anger management is an important skill to17early.
These are just a few of the many studies linking anger to18and emotional health problems, from the obvious to the19. Because poorly managed anger presents such a significant problem in so many areas of life, it’s important to take steps toward learning and using healthy anger management techniques in daily life,20stress management techniques.

I prefer the stories about the swimmers at the Beijing Olympics, one of which is about Zakia Nassar. She's a 21-year-old Palestinian1 Bethlehem studying dentistry in Jenin. Having had neither a2 nor a chance to an Olympic-sized pool in the past year, she had no choice but to3 on her own at a 12m public pool.
There is a 50-meter4 in nearby Nazareth, but the Israeli government did not5 her to use it.
Nassar was6 to training only when she returned to her parents' home in Bethlehem,7 she did so only about every two months for two days or so.8 the pool is only 12 meters long.
“My parents and friends always9 me, reminding me that I had to keep training if I10wanted to go to the Olympics,” she said.
It was only when Nassar11 China a month ago that she finally got the opportunity to swim in a 50m pool and enjoyed the12 of having a coach.
When she at last took part in the Games, she swam the 50m in 31.97 seconds, a(n)13 of seven seconds on her personal14. Nassar said it was the most beautiful moment of her life.
She will not15 on the cover of Time magazine or16 millions of dollars in endorsements(捐款), but she can always say she won a race at the Olympics. For her, it wasn’t about17 the other swimmers or winning a prize, but about18 her own goal,19 difficult. When I think things are too difficult or I get those “I-just-can’t-do-it,” I think of her. Then I realize how20 the task before me really is.

I don’t know why life sometimes gives us spring days and sometimes dumps a ton of snow in us. I do know,19, that we can pray, laugh, love, and choose20 through it all.
