I had a summer camp with my classmates last year. Early in the morning, we gathered (集合) at the bus station. After saying goodbye to our parents, we got on the buses. It took us more than two hours to arrive at the campground (野營(yíng)地). We got off the buses cheerfully. Laughing and shouting. We jumped and ran all over the place. It was the first time for us to be away from the parents. Some of us started to feel homesick (想家). However, when the night party and dances began, the homesickness was gone. The next day, everybody rushed to the boating class, hoping to be at the head of the others. At first, my friends and I worked hard, but the boat wouldn’t listen to us and kept going round and round. Then the teacher taught us how to work together. After many tries, we did much better. Swimming class was my favorite. It was about the hottest time of a day and the best time to stay in the cool water. The swimming teacher was a funny man, and during (在…期間) the class he often made us laugh happily. During the week I learned a lot of new things and made many new friends. I also learned how to take care of myself.

If your mother wants to tell you something, she uses words. Birds can not talk as we do. But some birds can make sounds to warn their young of danger. They have their own way to make the young birds know or do certain things.

The jackdaw is a kind of blackbird that lives in Europe. Jackdaws live together in groups. Young jackdaws do not know their enemies. When the older jackdaw sees a dog, it makes a loud rattling sound. The younger birds know this sound means an enemy is nearby. The sound warns them to know their enemies.

If a young jackdaw is in a dangerous place, a jackdaw parent flies over him from behind. The parent bird flies low over the younger bird’s back. The parent’s tail feathers move quickly from side to side. It is trying to say, “Follow me.” At the same time, the parent calls out, “Key-aw, Key-aw.” The parent means, “Fly home with me.”

Young jackdaws do not have to learn what certain sounds mean. They know the meanings of these sounds from the time they are hatched.
