Do you believe that you aren’t smarter than 3-year-old Alexis Martin, one of the youngest members of the high IQ club Mensa? Preschooler (學(xué)齡前的) Alexis’s IQ(智商)is 159, which is only one point lower than Stephen Hawking(霍金)’s. Doctors say the average IQ of a person is about 100.

She learned to read at the age of 2. She reads at a fifth grade level and has taught herself Spanish on her parents’ iPad! Now, she is a member of the Mensa Club, which only accepts people with an IQ within the top two percent of people in the world!

Alexis’ father, Ian Martin, said he first realized Alexis was special when she was 12 months old. She could recite (背誦)bedtime stories. “We’d be driving around in the car and she would recite her bedtime stories from the night before. She didn’t just recite them, and she recited them exactly.”

Alexis’ father would try to trick her and say that her story went a different way, but she always corrected him. Most 12-month-old children take their first steps on their own and most 18-month-olds can only name a small number of objects and body parts, and follow simple two-step questions. Even though Alexis is a genius (天才), her parents are faced with lots of challenges (挑戰(zhàn))like how to teach her to make friends of her own age.

“Will she go into kindergarten early? We are kind of hesitant (遲疑的) because we do want her to get to that social world.” Ian said.

Trees are one of the oldest citizens (公民) of our earth. Just like us, trees change a lot as when they grow. At 1to 3 years old, young trees learn how to protect themselves. For example, many trees grow thorns(刺) to tell animals not to go near. Most young trees have large, deep green leaves so that they can catch enough sunlight and change it into their food and energy.

When trees are 4 years old, they begin to grow very fast and become strong enough to face challenges in life. At the age of 15, trees become young adults. They grow more slowly and begin to produce flowers and fruit. It is not until the trees are 20 to 25 years old that they become real adults. The trees reach their largest sizes. Adult trees give us many things such as oxygen(氧氣) and natural beauty. If we give them good care, they will go on to live healthily for many years. In many ways, the life of trees is like our own life experience. So, enjoy every minute of the life of the trees because they are very helpful to the environment.

There are many colours in nature. But do you know that a colour has weight? I think you’ll say “no”. But I am afraid you are wrong. If you don’t believe, you may do a small experiment(實(shí)驗(yàn)).

First, put two objects with the same weight into two boxes. Then cover the boxes. Wrap(包裹) one box with a red piece of paper, the other with a white piece of paper. Now hold the boxes with your hand one by one. It is certain that you will think the red one is a little heavier.

Why does it happen? A scientist found that different colours have different weight in a man’s mind. So he did many tests and at last he got the result. That is to say, every colour has its own weight in our mind. The heaviest colour is red, then blue, green, orange, yellow and white. The scientists told us that colours also have smell. Can you smell the colour? Of course not. Then why did the scientists say so? That is because every colour represents a kind of light wave(光波)------ a certain wavelength(波長(zhǎng)). It reaches our brain(大腦) through organs(感覺(jué)器官)

According to this discovery, scientists say that people accept the colour they like, and refuse the colour they hate. So your body and mind will be healthy by using the colours you like. Or you’ll be nervous or even get ill. If you stay in a room with red windows, wallpapers and furniture(家具) for two hours, you’ll feel you have been there for four hours. But if the room is blue, you’ll feel you have been there for only one hour. Another example, if a person walks out of a red room and into a blue room, his temperature will fall. That means our body temperature will change when we see different colours.

1.Which is the lightest colour in a man’s mind?

A. Red B. Blue C. Green D. White

2.Which of the following is NOT true?

A. Different colours have different weights in a man’s mind.

B. The colour “blue” is the second heaviest colour in a man’s mind.

C. People can’t smell the colours.

D. The colour you don’t like will keep you healthy.

3.What will happen when you get into a cool coloured room from a warm coloured room?

A. You will feel excited.

B. You will be happy and contened.

C. Your temperature will fall.

D. You will be nervous.

4.According to the passage, how long will you feel if you stay in a red room for an hour?

A. Two hours. B. Fours hours

C. Six hours D. Eight hours.

閱讀文章,回答下列問(wèn)題。(10分)

Gift giving is different from culture to culture and person to person.

When giving gifts, sometimes color is important. For example, for many Chinese people around the world, red is a lucky color, and people often like to wrap gifts in this color. However, did you know that in Korea, red is a color of death? That is why you should not wrap(包裝) your gifts in this color if you are giving a gift to a Korean person. What about westernn countries? In western countries, the color of wrapping paper is not really important. But color does matter when giving flowers, especially roses. You should not give red roses to a western person you don't know very well because they are a symbol of love. You could give yellow roses instead as these are a symbol of friendship. You could also send pink roses as gifts to say thank you.

What other things should you remember when giving gifts to someone from a different culture? Well, one thing you should keep in mind is the person's religion(宗教). When choosing a gift for a Muslim (穆斯林) or Jewish friend, you should never get food including pork, or things made from pigskin. Another thing that you should not get for a Muslim person is alcohol (酒).

1.In which country do people think red is the color of death?

2.How can we show our friendship to the western friends?

3.What gift doesn’t a Muslin friend like?

4.How many colors are mentioned(提及) in this passage? What are they?

5.What's the main idea of this passage?
